Do you have any idea why the warrant officer would be looking for you? If you failed to pay a fine in some county or state then more than likely it would be a warrant for "fairlure to pay", so it would be in the city/county where you didn't pay the fine. If you wrote a hot check in some city or county then the same holds true you would call that city. You can go to the Police Department in your home town and get them to check to see if something comes up in your name, but if there is an active warrant they will have to arrest you. So be prepared to either pay the warrant in full or go to jail and be bonded out by the Judge. Good luck.

The best clue to finding out more is to continue to ask your neighbor what was said during the conversation with the officer. It might be that the neighbor used the term 'warrant officer' when it wasn't really someone trying to serve a warrant.

There are many other reasons that law enforcement or a private investigator might show your photo and ask questions about you. The reasons are far to numerous to speculate.

If you get along well with that neighbor, go back and tell him that you called around and confirmed you don't have any warrants for you, and could you please tell me more about what the officer said? Did he ask questions? Did he say why he was looking for me? Did he leave a number to call? Did he go to other neighbors as well?

Depending on how the law enforcement community is set up where you live, the possibility of someone attempting to serve a warrant for you is there. In Massachusetts, only local, state, and federal law enforcment agents serve arrest warrants. The sherrifs department serves court paperwork. If you have contacted all of the local police or sherrifs departments, and they have told you that they do not have any outstanding paperwork for your arrest, they probably are not looking to serve a warrant on you. I would contact the local district court and ask them if they are seeking a warrant. Another possiblity is that the individual was a private investigator. In other words, unless you know that you committed a crime or failed to pay traffic fines, i wouldn't worry about it.
