The answer will vary from topic to topic. In general, when you
consider that the the vast majority of people on the planet live
in destitution, have half the expected life time as is medically
possible, etc, I'd say "no".

On the other hand, there are certainly places where the State
interferes where it doesn't belong - like with who can have
sex with whom.

I'd say that our priorities are pretty screwed up, but I'm not
willing toss out the baby with the bath water.

By the way, the term "political correctness" was simply a
sarcastic reference to people correcting verbiage to make it
less offensive to others. Clearly, people should understand
what they are saying enough to understand how it can be
taken, but most people do not think at that level when they
speak casually.

Again, the intent is good, but if executed without understanding
what you are trying to deal with, it does more harm than good.

More thought. Less labeling.

No bout a doubt it! The nanny state has emasculated free thinking and we are experiencing the loss of the ability to reason at an alarming rate.

Dumbed down to levels once thought comical, we are begetting the begetting of a race of near idiots who will fulfill that destiny in perhaps only 2 or 3 more generations.

God knows I'm happy I won't be around to see that but I'll be cringing each time I see the mounting evidence of it each and every day.

Yes and Yes.

Political correctness has gone so out of control that it has become reverse racism. White people are being discriminated AGAINST by bodies like the police who are so desperate to avoid "offending" ethnic minorities or leaving themselves open to charges of racism that they are loathe to carry through justice against an ethnic person who has committed an actual crime!!

Someone we know was beaten up badly by a pakistani neighbour (over a row over the family cat going in the Pakistani's garden - he didn't like pets and threatened to poison the cat!) - an argument ensued and the Pakistani bloke attacked our friend quite violently with a blunt implement causing nasty head injuries and concussion. But because the Pakistani guy started shouting about racism when he was arrested (for GBH) the police were too scared to touch it and he got off scott free. Its so wrong. His victim was robbed of justice.

As for "nanny state" yes indeed I'm sick of being told about 5 pieces of fruit and veg a day, no more than 6g salt blah blah its like having your mum nagging you over your shoulder all the time. Anyone with an ounce of sense can decide for themselves what a sensible diet is. Most sensible people don't drink or smoke excessively or live exclusively on junk food. And those who do aren't likely to listen to the bleatings of the Government.

I learnt PC and non-PC in English language a-level 2 years ago and I think some things are okay like air HOSTESS and waitRESS etc, so that people aren't made to sound like objects (all male or single sexed) but to an extent it has gone crazy, like not saying people are bald, saying that they are "follically challenged" and tall people are "vertically challenged"
Some PC things were taken that little bit too far, but I do agree with some of the PC terms.

Definitely! When I went to school it was 'a balckboard' and 'baa baa balck sheep' Now it is a 'wipe board' and 'baa baa rainbow sheep'!!!! How rediculous is that??\If something is coloured black then it shoyuld be called black, not rainbow or colour opposite to white! Oh and by the way, I am classed as white British but my skin is a pinky peach colour!! and another thing, people from Britain are called Brits, from Scotland are Scots Jocks etc from Wales, Welsh,Taffs etc, Ireland, Irish, Paddies etc...........I could go on for ever. If you are from Pakistan you are known as Asian. Now wehy are Brits, Scots, irish and Welsh not known as European or Euros even?? The world has gone PC crazy!!!!

The Consitution does NOT guarantee the right to not be insulted, but today's society acts like it does. All groups and peoples are not all good and only dedicated to work peacefully and sing the Coca Cola song on the nearest hill top.

That is an understatement. We now live in a dictatorship. Political correctness is the lies a society (government) convinces its people of. We now allow the government to create law based on the lies we are told and not reality. That is how we have allowed ourselves to be enslaved.

Yes, without any doubt.

Does PC really benefit those people who it purports to protect?
Very little. It is more likely to cause resentment and possibly encourage social segregation where individuals fear the consequences of deviation from PC.

PC appears to be the invention of those who are intent on destroying the indigenous culture of the UK.

In many ways yes. But there are also a lot of narrow minded idiots out there who seem unable to grasp that they cannot make sweeping general statements and insulting people of different colours, races and creeds.
