NO! It is not normal for a 2 yr old to have back and head pain (especially if it's on-going). She either got an injury from a fall or something (you may not have even seen it happen). Or she could have something else happening....

You need to take her to a doctor immediately! If your doctor isn't taking appointments for a while, go to an immediate medical center or emergency room. You can't mess around with these things in children. It could be absolutely nothing, but it could be something very serious. I don't mean to scare you, but there are many scenarios that may require immediate medical attention, that, if not given proper attention, could end in permanant injury or even death. Your daughter's probably fine, but don't take chances with the ones you love. Keep chance for the lotto.

Good luck!

There's a flu going around here the last few weeks, in which your body hurts really bad for a couple of days and really the whole thing takes a week to get over, although its milder pain during the rest of the week. One person I know specifically suffered back muscle spasms during it, and they all had (mild-ish) headaches.

First question, as others have mentioned, is.... is she just imitating something she's seen, maybe she just doesn't feel good and is trying to make up a way to express that.

If she has a fever, or refuses to play, you definitely should call your pediatrician. But I thought I'd mention that flu that's going around here. I've seen worse flu's. It's a little strange in that its not so obvious. Some families get fevers from it and others didn't.

Also, when you're not sure, call the pediatrician's office and see if they think it warrants bringing her in or not.

It's not "normal" to experience pain at any age. Pain indicates something is going on. Before running to the doctor, try and find out more. What was she doing just before it gets sore? Did she have an injury recently at daycare or preschool? Does she have other symptoms, such as painful urination?

Once you have more details, consult your pediatrician. S/he will probably want to do an exam.

It could be something very un-medical. My daughter likes to wear band-aids and will say she has owwies everywhere just to get a band-aid. Sometimes she wants her back rubbed, so she may say it hurts until I rub it for her. But it's best to rule out physical causes before looking for behavioral ones.

my daughter did the same thing . She was copying what she had seen to get attention. She was forever complaining about some ailment or other.I rushed her to the doctor many times at first. Wasted a lot of time and money on my little hypochondriac.

It's normal for young children to have these "ailments" with non-specific symptoms. They may see people around them who don't feel well, and suddenly think they are ill too. The problem is, your two-year-old COULD have something wrong. Your best bet is to get in to your pediatrician to rule anything out. Good luck!

I would say no, is she imitating someone she is around alot. If a child sees their caregiver or a relative constantly holding their head or back and complaining of pain they will learn this response. If this is not your situation then I would have her checked out. She could have menegitis. Serious!!!

I wouldn't be surprised if she's sleeping in a strange position and it's hurt her back. Maybe her back needs to be aligned by a chiropractor?

I'd recommend taking her to see a docotr. I've never heard of a two year old having back pain.

It could be she just wants attention or she is mimicking someone she has seen with the same symptoms. I would take her to a doctor just in case.
