The rule of thumb these days is simple, "Do what you want!"
This is your wedding day. Sit down with your husband to be and discuss what themes and colors you both enjoy best. The colors are important because some guests purchase gifts to reflect the colors that you have chosen.
I've had couples have deep colors for their spring weddings and they were beautiful.
Remember to have fun with your planning, if you're not having fun something is wrong.
Best of luck to both of you!

Spring is the earth coming alive. This is a wonderful time of year for a wedding. So many times pastel colors are used, which can make a beautiful rainbow wedding. But why not go for a bit brighter of those same colors amid a background of green? Just like a garden.

April sounds like a lovely time to get married. I like the idea that tulips would be in season, and if it fits your style, they do represent fertility. I think the paler the wedding decorations, the more elegant. In fact, the most beautiful weddings I've attended have been all white ones. If color is your thing think of the softest blue in robin's egg hue, or the lightest baby pink. Also, I recently attended a wedding where they gave bulbs as the parting gift, and that would work in the spring as well. Congratulations and good luck to you both!

i am planning a wedding for next April & dont like pastels either!i just looked through wedding magazines & chose the flowers i liked first, then it was obvious what colors to go with.I really like the flowers that are green,hydrangas,mums,etc...and i will probably throw in some deep reds with them.you can really do what you want, who made the rule that a wedding HAS to have theme colors anyway? i was thinking i could also do bouquets of brightly colored flowers mixed together & use that as a theme!

My wedding was in April and I used sage green, white & silver. You didn't say what colors you actually like other than you didn't like pastel colors therefore it will be hard to give you ideas for a spring wedding. Here's my suggestion
Purple, lavender and silver
navy blue, silver and white
Give us more details of colors you like and I would try to post pictures that can help you make a decision. Good Luck.

My colors were pink and green. Light shades, but not pastel. Basically, April is about springtime, and any spring colors would work. I consider any color you see in flowers to be a springtime color.

I say flowers flowers and more flowers. I spent more on flowers than I did on the caterer. The food was grand, they ate all of it, but the flowers were where I got the most compliments. I can send you pictures of the colors I chose. Hell, I can even send you the flowers if you want em. Paid $700 on beautiful silks and now they are sitting in the dining room of my mother's house and she wants them out, but I won't let her put them in the garage because things go out there and never come out.

Red and white
Blue, silver and white (can be a darker or med. blue)
Maroon, silver and ivory.
There are tons of color combos without going to pastels.
Congratulations!
