People from some parts of New Orleans have a New York-sounding accent. I have thought about that several times when I was in NOLA.

The NYC accent is unique but the Boston accent is somewhat similar, the Chicago accent less so. OK, Boston is in the Northeast, sorry, but thats the best I can do...

In what way? You can find commonalities between individual sounds used in New York and many other places in the United States. Not to mention that there are different accents in New York. One of the most famous research studies ever in sociolinguistics is a study done by Labov where he found that people used different accents in different New York department stores.

I lived in New Orleans for two years and I was very surprised at how similar their accent is with a New York accent.
