It is basically the same, if you look from a objective point of view.

Religions practices are different base on their location, culture and foundational belief, however their goal is ultimately the same.

Many eastern religion's goal is to obtain enlightenment in one's lifetime, and there are many methods to go about doing so. One of the methods is chanting sutra/mantra or the name of the supreme being. Hence the repetition of chanting you have mentioned in your question.

Western belief is found on worship and praying, which if done unceasingly, the mind will focus and reaching the same state of serenity which is similarly achieved by chanting from many eastern religion.

Of course, if you look from a devotee's point of view of a religion, no two methods are alike and there is only path to their own Supreme being; anything else is wrong and possibly interpreted as evil or in that context.

However, this point of view is often influential by their own belief and tend to creates conflict and fights among people.

Whether its praying or mantra chanting with repetition unceasingly, it does help one focus the mind and reach a peacefulness state of mind; that is for sure a fact no matter what you're religion is base on.

The Biblical mandate to "pray unceasingly" is a rejoinder to stay close to God, to maintain cosideration, through prayer, of the needs of others, of the generosity of God and of our thankfulness for His blessings. It requires concious thought.

1Th 5:11 Therefore encourage one another and build each other up as you are already doing.
1Th 5:12 Now we ask you, brothers, to give recognition to those who labor among you and lead you in the Lord and admonish you,
1Th 5:13 and to esteem them very highly in love because of their work. Be at peace among yourselves.
1Th 5:14 And we exhort you, brothers: warn those who are lazy, comfort the discouraged, help the weak, be patient with everyone.
1Th 5:15 See to it that no one repays evil for evil to anyone, but always pursue what is good for one another and for all.
1Th 5:16 Rejoice always!
1Th 5:17 Pray constantly.
1Th 5:18 Give thanks in everything, for this is God's will for you in Christ Jesus.
