The more you stay in the water and practice the better you will become!

I learned on a long board first and did that for a month (3x per week). The transition to a shorter board was much easier as a result.

I'm new too surfing and have only done it once but managed to get up on it straught anyway. But I guess you should start on small (higher than 2feet atleast) and just get used to what your doing and focus. Try turning the board and learn to control it then try and get out on some bigger waves.
Thats probably a good way to do it, but I wouldn't really know. But hope that helps.

Get a bigger board that actually floats you. If you got one of those paper thin craouch rockets you will have more difficulty in learning. Go to the surfshop and buy a used funboard to learn on.

Just a lot of plain old practice over and over again. Don't give up. One day it will all come together, and you'll be surfing with the best!!

Good luck!!
