Some people are easily offended over things we may not even consider as harmful

The thing is, we've be slammed with anti-racism messages from every side and in every possible manner. We've been anti-racismed to death, making us (as a society) over sensitive to the whole racism thing. Sometimes it's a member of this race--be it black, asian, native, what-have-you--or sometimes it's a person who's not even a member of the race that is supposedly being offended. And yes, it is ridiculous. Racism is something that shouldn't be in a just society, an thus no anti-racisist "rules" would be needed. But, alas, until the end of the near-sighted, narrow-minded people--of all races-- who are racist, it will be just another price we have to pay. Best one can do, is to not perpetuate, either racism or overreacting to every little thing.

It's a great question; wish I knew the answer. Perhaps becasue they have nothing better to do? My personal experience has been that the true racists are usually the ones accusing others of racism.

If the ignorant people in this world would give it a little thought, they'd realize that there is only ONE race on this planet: the HUMAN race. So, unless one is conversing with legitimate extraterrestrials, it isn't really racism, is it?

*Sigh* Saying the best tea comes from China doesn't deal with a race, but a country. Now if you said that Chinese people have the best tea, that wouldn't be racist but that WOULD be stereotyping. A lot of "innocent" remarks based on race are considered racist because a lot of times they carry the "stereotype" attribute along with it. Saying "Chinese people have the best tea" wouldn't be a negative stereotype though. Now if you said something like "Chinese people eat cats", now THAT would carry a racist element to it because you are placing one negative attribute on an entire group of people with disregard of the individuals within the race.

As for comparing races, I think it's stupid to do that anyhow. We all are humans, the only difference between us is physical features and various depths of melanin in our skin.

It has been stereotyped to the point that any time a statement is made that includes a race of people it is taken as racist. It is ridiculous that this is the way the world has become. The people doing this are the reason that humanity cannot move past its history and towards a world where we are all one race. The human race. I doubt we ever see anything close to this in our lifetimes though. Honestly there are rascist people in every race. Whites are rascist against black and mexicans and aparently every other nationality. Blacks are racist against whites. asians are racist against whites and blacks. it is stupid and we all just need to fu*king move on from these beligerant thoughts and statements.

I'd like to make jokes about people of other nationalities. They should do the same about me. I would'nt mind. And the best tea comes from India or Sri Lanka, mostly India. We say we are going forward (into the future), but in some ways we are regressing. If everyone had equal money or opportunities, then maybe it would cease.

I think people are offended when comparisons reinforce negative racial stereotypes
For example, the worlds largest producer to tea is India, so its probably the best indian tea youre drinking.

People today seem eager to "play the race card" for some reason. It does seem OK to talk about how us white folks can't dance, etc. Blacks seem fine with calling each other the "N' word, but go into a murderous rage if they hear a white person utter this word. Of course "Honky" and "Cracker" are terms which may be applied at will. I notice that black females are starting to date white guys...a trend I like. This does seem to bother black males, who for years have prided themselves with their white girlfriends. Life is funny...

Unfortunately that's the way we let it become. People are like crying babies, you cannot pick up a bay every time it cries, it becomes spoiled, We did that whenever anyone screamed racism, now everyone is spoiled.

no, it depends .

the comment you made is NOT a racist remark, in my opinion. But the best tea I think comes from Japan. :-)

that particular comment is NOT racist...I think it is because there are still some people who want to be so politically correct they will turn anything into a racist comment
