This is because everybody is doing it. There are not many role models in daily life to set the example of speaking good english. Unfortunately we risk becoming a nation of lousy speakers, since we don't speak our native tongues that well either. However, I'd like to say that speaking good language is a personal effort.

It's just an habit. In general, the standard of written English among Singaporean is quite high compare worldwide. Don't forget most Singaporean took their G.C.E. "O" level, and the English Language paper was marked by "Ang Mo". You should aware how many of them get an distinction.

Singapore is a "rojak" country, that mean multi racial country. You cannot blamed Singaporeans from speaking or writing broken and bad grammar English. We, the Singaporeans are not "Ang Mo", thus see for yourself country like Malaysia, Hong Kong and Taiwan, the standard of English compare to Singapore ?

It is not broken English but a specific and recognisable form of English commonly called 'Singlish'. It was originally English but the Singaporeans have put it into common usage and incorporated it with characteristics from their own Chinese varieties as well as its own distinct pronunciation.

English is actually one of the official languages in Singapore. All I can say is is that maybe Mandarin is the most spoken and that has an affect on people's English.
