Does your puppy have to be KC Regd? What are the affects of him not being?

The puppy im looking to purchase is a boxer. The seller says both parents are, but because she doesn't want the pups bred she isn't KC registering them.

This breeder is either lying to you or not very knowledgable about the KC. If you do not want a pup bred from then you put endorsements on the pups papers stating that the pups offspring are not elligible for registration. Being KC registered doesn't mean that a pup will be bred from. More unregistered dogs are bred from than registered ones - so your breeders reasons for not registering the pups are very flawed. I would be suspicious of this breeder. Maybe the breeder cannot register the pups because they have not abided by the rules of the KC eg, breeding from an underage or overage b1tch. I would also make sure that this breeder is a member of and adheres to the Code of Ethics of the Boxer Breed Club and therefore carries out all the relevant genetic tests of both sire and dam, most importantly hip-scoring and heart-testing (ask to see proof of the results). If these have not been carried out then walk away, this is not a good breeder. To be honest, I would not buy this pup. Breeders who make excuses about not registering pups are generally not reputable. To find a reputable breeder or even just to discuss buying a boxer, get in touch with your nearest Boxer Breed Club:

edited to add: if you do buy this dog then you should not be expected to pay what you would for a KC registered boxer as you have no proof that the pup is purebred (even if it looks it). You will also have no idea of the pups ancestory and therefore no idea of the health issues behide the pup. I would not pay more for an unregistered purebred pup than I would a mongrel.

Well, if the pup is not, there is no proof of him being purebred.
You can assume it is pure, but there is no proof and no proof of parentage.
If not registered, they cannot compete in Kennel club events.

Sounds way to shady. If it was the AKC, they could just do the limited registration. If you are talking about the World KC or the COntinentail KC, it doesn't matter since those registries are crap anyway. I would ask for the parents registration papers. Get copies so you can check on the info and make sure. If it is on the up and up, you have to decide if you are paying a fair price for a unregistered pup. Even if you are not breeding, being registered does have other perks.

When I bought my puppy just under a year ago, I was told the same - she was sold as a pet and not for breeding or for show, that is why the owner did not register her. You can be sure that she is pedigree because her parents are Kennel Club registered - ask to see their pedigree documents. A reputable breeder will also give you a copy of your puppy's family tree which you might be able to trace back through the kennel club.
The only downside to your pup not being KC registered is if you were planning on breeding or showing her - if you aren't then there is no problem.

The breeder is allowed to give you a limited registration, which means you can not breed the dog & register it's pups, as it was agreed it would be spayed or neutered - which is most likely what this 'breeder' was supposed to do & why they can't register the pups. Another reason they may not not be able to register these pups is they have beem banned from the AKC (or other KC) for bad breeding practices. Do you really trust this? I would advise you to walk away from breeders like this - quickly!

Get in touch with a reputable breeder that belongs to the breed's club & certify their breeding dogs against known genetic defects - every breed has some, good breeders know & test their dogs. You can find these good breeders through the breed clubs listed on the registry's website (best is www.akc.org is the US - call a local vet's office & ask which is your country's most respected registry). This is the best way to ensure a healthy dog for life.

No, unless you plan on showing the dog in the future, this is to ensure that the dog comes from pure bloodlines and they can trace the dog back to its parents. Having a purebred puppy that is not registered will have no effect on him what so ever.

If the parents are registered she can registert he pups and give them a limited registration so that if they are bred their pups can not be registered.
If that is her excuse for not having the pups registered there is the answer.
If anything else most likely she can not or is unable to register them.
If you are not wanting to show the dog having one not registered is fine. They will still be a great pet.

relies upon on what registry. AKC (american kennel club) does no longer enable mom/son breedings(puppies) get papers. even even with the undeniable fact that the two mothers and dads are registered. you should in all probability in the event that they have been the two the two CKC(continental) or UKC(extensive-unfold) or maybe APRI or despite else they have. in the event that they have been the two registered the comparable. then you definitely ought to easily get a muddle application.

Only if its a fancy pedigree dog, in which case you're breeder will give you birth certificate etc. But if its not purebred then you don't need to be with KC.

If you want to have the dog recognised as pure breed then yes but your breeder has to reg them first as so they are associated with the parents and the breeder and then you need to transfer owner ship. Your breeder should automatically do this if they are pure breed puppies. If they are not pure breed then it does not matter.

GOOD the BREEDER!!!
***IF*** that's the TRUTH & not just trying to scam you into paying for UN-REGISTERABLE stuff.

AKC has "limited" reg.which REPUTABLE BREEDERS use to ensure that PET-STUFF is NOT used for breeding!
Many are ALTERING the pups BEFORE they leave home!!! **VERY** good idea!
