People tend to mock things they do not understand. Look at the Pharisees and Sadducee's...unto death they mock our Lord. They believe us "holier than thou" without realising we are simply trying to live life as best we can "loving one another as God loves us" Groups like the ACLU target Christians, even to go as far as say we are not allowed to call Christmas Christmas. Why do non-Christians even celebrate it then? I just don't understand either. Where is our freedom of expression? Where are my first ammendment rights protected? Does a cross in a Easter display really offend folks so much? If so why? Easter celebrates "He has risen" from the tomb where he was lain after hanging on the cross to die. The Lord said we'd be persecuted and persecuted we are. I forgive as our Lord forgave for these people know not what they do. Also to respond to the person that said if Jesus died he is not God!!!! Do you miss the whole message of the New Testament or have you never read it? I'm perplexed how you think Jesus is dead. The whole point is He Lives!!!!!

I have found ,like you, that there is alot of Christian bashing. But in all due respect I have seen many Christian give rude and crass answers to the atheists as well. If the purpose of your question is to gain knowledge, then neither side should have a reason to get defensive. However if you go at a question like you are forcing a point, then you must understand that there will be someone on the opposite side of the spectrum who feels as passionately about their belief as you do yours. We would all do well to remember that both when asking and answering questions. I am a Christian and I find some of the atheists questions to be very compelling and I find some Christian questions to be too much like shoveling your belief down someone else's throat. Perhaps we all need to just take a valium and rethink our stances on things.

I do believe it is because some of the beliefs of Christianity do go against experiences of our lives. I find it incredible that a religion like Christianity can be so very contradictory. You must not sin, but if you repent then God will forgive you. Rape is not considered a mortal sin of the bible if you are married to the person you are raping, so repent and God will forgive you. You should not have an abortion, but having a child out of wedlock is so very frowned upon, you are kind of stuck between a rock and another rock. I think that the fact that you have a faith that comforts you is really cool even if I don't agree with that, but you disagree with the fact that I believe in more spiritual things and don't credit it with anything other than scorn. Think about it!

Giggles is the exact type of Christian I have a problem with. By carefully selecting individual verses from the Bible I can get any point at all across. Do not ever quote one verse or especially just a few words of a verse. To keep things in proper context quote at a minimum the entire chapter. But, yeah that would make it difficult to make your point which doesn't always go with the point of the chapter.
For an example of taking things out of context by using only excerpts. We all should remember the Back to the Future series of movies. I am sure we have all heard what the movie Brokeback Mountain was about. Two entirely different ideas. Now, go and Yahoo or Google for brokback to the future video. No overdubbing, no changing dialog, just using excerpts out of context. Exactly like what misinformed Bible thumpers do.

Good question , bandaid.
The answer is there are alot of intolerant folks who have decided to bash Christians who hold the bible as God's Word.
Then they rant & rage that Christians are intolerant when all of us can see where the problem REALLY is.
This of course was predicted in the very bible they hate:
"Knowing this, that there shall come in the last days scoffers, walking after their own lusts..."
(2 Peter 3:3)
" Now the Spirit speaks expressly that in the latter times some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits and doctrines of devils, speaking lies in hypocrisy..."(1Tim.4:1)
DON'T LET IT BOTHER YOU THOUGH : THEY ARE ONLY DESTROYING THEMSELVES.

I completely agree. Though I try to respect all around me myself, I have agree. All of the thumbs down for God-related questions/answers are obviously strong non-believers; Atheists. I'm not saying this out of hatred or anything though, I'm just acknowledging the fact and saying it! Christians do the same of course for a bashing question/answer against God, but still... Atheists tend to do it more I think. They're very angry sort of people, you'll notice! Not at all, but most. How I wish Atheists were more open and tolerant and some Christians the same... how I wish!
Excellent question and hope I answered it well. : )

Yeah, I always get thumbs down...I don't care though, at least it meant they had to read my answer. So, someday when Judgement day comes, and believe me or not, IT WILL! At least they will not be able to say that they never knew! Thank God for our freedom and God bless you! Nice question by the way, I found it through Julia who posted a question against you, and put the link to your question on it...It is a shame people feel they have to be so ignorant sometimes.

The problem is, taking a direct quote from your question - "Just because we dont believe what you believe does not give you the right to put us down." I personally don't care if you are Christian, Muslim, Jew, or even Scientologist, but I do care when I get told I am going to burn in hell forever just because I don't believe that the bible should be taken word for word.
Hold the same standards to yourself and treat everyone's opinion equally. "Love your neighbor as yourself"
As far as the thumbs up/down go. If an answer is good and thoughtful, it gets a thumbs up. If the answer is mindless repetition of dogma, or just a bunch of bible/koran/torah quotes it counts as more mindless drivel and gets a thumbs down. If there is one quote with analysis, so it doesn't seem like someone is brow-beating with the bible, I might leave it alone or give it a thumbs up, depending on how intelligent sounding the analysis is. Same thing goes for other answers. If you copy and paste from wikipedia, especially if you don't site it, thumbs down. etc.

Well, I think thye're bashing the christians who heave those beliefs which sound rather insane. I don't get why they're bashing on us, really. I mean, come on, where's the love for the jews? The islams? Hell, even the buddhists? The only one that bashes the rest is Carlos Mencia, and they need to take a hint to stop the bashing on us and start bashing the other religions again.

I only have a problem with the Christians who show up here with a chip on their shoulder and act all holier than thou. I am also a little biased because for the past two years I've had to deal with the small mindedness of some Christians. I home school my kids and I joined our local home educators group. Most of them are very religious and I've been ignored, and treated badly because of my pagan beliefs. I used to be more open about people's faith. I have an interest in all religions in a historical sense. I find it fascinating. But after dealing with these narrow minded women I just found it difficult not to see all Christians in that light. I know they're not all like that. One of my very best friends is very devout. I respect her beliefs. It is just frustrating to be shunned by these people for such a personal reason.
So, when I'm here at this site and I see people with attitudes spouting their Christian beliefs I can't help but respond.
