just been reading through some other answers... DO NOT put washing up detergent in your hair ever... it will dry you hair folicle out... which could result in the hair snapping, and also strips colour out. also, you need to condition all of your hair, so dont just put conditioner on your ends... if you don't this could also result in snapping.
you need to find a specialised shampoo and conditioner. i realise it is expensive, but the professional ranges are the best there are.... there's not much point in me telling you names and brands of products, cause we live in different countries, but my advice is to go into a salon where they have a large variety of different brands and get their professional advice. if you're unsure, ask for some samples to take home and try them out and see how you like them. there are a couple of products out also that you can spray onto your roots and they help the oil disappear... they're miracle workers..
good luck!!

The shampoo and conditioner aren't the problem. I am guessing but do you blow dry your hair???? cause if you don't you want to start. But not every day. The heat should be applied at the greasy roots 1st, blowing the heat downward towards the ends. What this will do is release the oils at the top and melt them down the rest of your hair to the ends. When you are finished and your hair is still warm give it a brush. It will take a few times (5) before you start to see that your hair is sharing its natural oils with the rest. good luck.....

Remember, only put conditioner on your ends, not the roots -- cuts back on greasiness. Also, there are powdered shampoos you can use just on the upper/root area -- clean and get rid of the grease without impacting the dryer ends.

you can get good combination conditioners at boots and stuff specially for that. i don't use conditioner personally because i get greasy hair easilly. i find that works. or maybe buy a leave in conditioner and when you've washed it with shampoo spray some leave in conditioner on the ends, i bet that would work!

I have the same problem and find using Sunsilk "fresh for longer" which is in a blue tube or Fructis "greasy roots and dry ends" has helped.
