True our ancestors were immigrants but that was a time that everyone was willing to work hard, and the US didn't have all these ridiculous accomodations for them. System needs an overhaul, its killing us! and right, we do have to catch them first! If you know of an illegal alien, report them (anonymously, if you wish) to your state government! They're sucking the country dry

the question deserves a long answer but some points may be helpful

It is stated that there are 12million illegals in the country [Noone knows of course so such numbers are wild guesses, but give or take a few million it is a large number] So the task would be daunting if not impossible. It is also stated[with a greater degree of accuracy] that 300,000 illegal aliens who have been ordered deported by the courts continue to live in the country. If we cant find 300,000 people who are on record in a court proceeding, imagine finding millions for whom there is no record whatever. It is a cinch that they are not going to line up to identify themselves for punishment.

So immediate first answer is it is likely impossible

so why are they here?

The market force called supply and demand is one of the most powerful forces in human activity and has a way of operatiing around laws. US needs cheap labor [demand] Mexico has excess unemployed labor[supply] Demand pulls supply across the Rio Grande despite US law. [ think of illegal drugs: those who want them[demand] make it worthwhile to break the law to create the supply [illegal drugs]. it is easy to blame the employers who like drug users illegally hire illegals, but there is enough blame to go around. We all benefit from this cheap labor and until the problem became enormous we were willing to accept the benefit without protest. If drastic action were taken to end the situation we would be the first to complain about the impact on us.[like forced withdrawal from the drug habit]

govt over decades has made only nominal efforts to stop the flow. The cost of such efforts would be large and the advantages of the cheap labor would be lost. There is pressure from the business interests that get the cheap labor. There is voting pressure from established immigrants to allow more. Both these parties care more than the rest of us, who up to now have been apathetic and willing to turn a blind eye ,[while getting the benefits].

Mexico makes no effort to assist since illegal immigration is a way to reduce their excess unemployed and the remittances from the illegals is an important revenue to the country.

There is a moral aspect to the question of deporting people who are settled in the country, employed, with families some born in the US. Recall our collective horror at stories of mass deportations in other countries of people they considered undesirable.

There is an economic aspect since they are working at jobs that are necessary to the economy. to deport this labor with no replacement available would be a serious economic jolt.

The question is morecomplex than my limited answer, but dont look for the simple solution of deporting them any time soon.

How exactly are you practically going to catch these people? they hardly advertise the fact

Short of finding anyone with dark skin and making them prove they are of legal resident there is no way.

Oh and that way above, would not only be a problem legally, it would also be totally impractical.

So if you can solve this problem, contact someone, spread the word...

there are many people waiting to hear from you. Go.

That's because some Americans need those immigrants to do the hard work for them. Isn't the United States about freedom, anyway? Weren't your ancestors also immigrants?
