Do you need a taller crane first? But then you'd need another one before that.

They start off on the ground and lift themselves up and then can insert an additional section. Then they lift themselves up on this section and insert another section.
I'm not explaining it very well, but that's how it works.

The boom is built in pieces that bolt together on the ground, using a pay loader to hold the pieces in place the the cable is spooled and "walla" you have a crane.

ive been wondering about that myself maybe they build it lying down and hoist it up???
