Sometimes I wonder why we bother buying food in the UK fullstop. Most of it is inferior compared to that available in other Western European countries.

It's a mix of convenience, cheaper prices, and a need to buy either "good looking" fruit and veg, or not wishing to recognise the meat comes from an animal rather than grown in polystyrene trays. (No, I'm not a veggie).

On the meat front, buying from a butcher rather then a supermarket tends to provide better results, and, if you can possibly find one, a greengrocer that allows you to pick your own fruit/veg from the shelf which has preferably not been deep chilled for transportation purposes. Try a farm shop if there.'s one nearby.

I never shop for meat and veg at Tescos, I only use Sainsbury's or better still try to shop from local shops in small villages out of the city at weekends.

I picked up on the first 2 words of your question, you actually admitted you've been incorrect as you very probable did not ask a question in conserving with Yahoo criteria. What a good type of human beings don;t understand is, you are able to over-kill a question and turn it right into a fact of your beliefs or opinion and then it quits being a question which factors the newshounds a lot reason to record it and extremely probable it took 2 to record & get rid of it.

I prefer to buy meat from the butchers and my veg from open markets and marks and spencers. Evrything else i buy at tescos because its better vlaue than some of the other shops and they tend to carry more of the products i like to buy.

once upon a time me and my partner were in deep dodoo money wise and we bought "tescos value fish fingers" @ 17 p fo 20 and a loaf of bread.@ 27 p. we lived of that junk untill we were able to climb from the financial hole we were in. we still use tescos for the mince, a quid for a pound. i re-mince it and make damn good burgers from it. cheap food can mean the difference between going hungry and at least having something in your belly. its a pity the quality is poor. but it is cheaper than most supermarkets.

You are right.

Sainsbury can be just as bad though. They wanted to charge 79p for a Cauli the size of a Tennis ball!
