I supose that it depends on the surface of bone affected, the greater the wound the worse the pain. Cracked fractures use to affect a longer section of the bone, so there is a higher number of pain receptor involved and some substances released when a bone breaks are present at higher concentrations as well. Anyway I am not sure about the differences between that pains, I broke my sternum into three pieces 5 years ago and I remember it as the worst pain I ever have had.
The problem is that if you broke your leg you can avoid moving it but you can not stop breathing.

I think they both hurt about the same. Does your cracked rib hurt more? The cracked rib would heal better though, I would think. Either way you are in for some pain. There is nothing worse and it is hard to believe that with al the advances in medicine, there is nothing doctors can do about it.

What's the difference between a 'cracked' rib and a 'broken' rib?
