There is no god.
Therefore, praying is an utter waste of time. Try not to confuse fantasy with reality ok?

First off with 27 years as a paramedic, and 18 of those also working as a police officer, I have seen God at work. I have watched as people who had no chance to live, make it. I have watched as whole communities gather together and their prayers are heard because someone is found or lives.
No one can say that this universe was an accident. That all theses cells accidentally got together and here was man. There has to be a bigger and better power. You can call it what you want, God, Buddha, or what ever, someone bigger than all of us is taking care of business.
I am also not a Bible thumper, but I have accepted Jesus as my Savior and my prayers do not fall on deaf ears. I have been in many situations in my two professions where life and death were a heart beat away, and I am still here.
This is something you need to work out and no one can make you or force you to rethink your position. I just think that as an adult, you need to constantly re-evaluate your position on things and when necessary, change.
Talk to people and read. Knowledge is a powerful tool

Spiritually mature people know about the void out there. Spiritually mature people know that prayer is the time to become quiet and set aside the pressures and furies of the moment, so that you can become attuned, at least temporarily, to the reality that is inside yourself.
Contemplate what can be known. All atoms are made of empty space and electric charges. That is, nothing. Reality exists on a scale we cannot comprehend, and in quantum physical terms, matter does not exist at all.
Thus it is true that we are created in God's image. God is made of empty space and electric charges, and so are we. Thus we are the same as God. Listen to that reality inside your mind. When you have done so, you have become spiritually mature, your expectations have become realistic, and you have engaged in true prayer.
That is how it is possible to pray while acknowledging realistically that the God of the Standard Cultural Religions does not, in fact, exist. God is imaginary. Of course God is imaginary. That is why you have an imagination.
Pray freely, but remember that real prayer is LISTENING, not speaking.

My friend Jim Harris is in extremis and not expected to make it through the night. Juanita went to see him and thought he seemed to recognize her.
There just seems to be a lot of death around. My friend Tom is going through it with his mother, and is rather upset. She is dying of emphysema and CHF, the result of 60 years of heavy smoking. I don't suppose one could ask for a longer life for a smoker, but she could have made this time easier for herself.
Jeff Davis luckily survived the gunshot wound and is now home, but can't work the summer job he wanted. He has a plate and screws in his arm. One of the perpetrators, a man already wanted for murder, was apprehended; the other remains on the loose.
We die in the night. We say our prayers if we can, and hope for the best. It will be wonderful if there is a far shore where we will meet again. What will Mozart have come up with between then and now? Will Muffin be there to greet me with barks and kisses?
A friend who had finished his PhD in philosophy at Chapel Hill and was leaving for his teaching job on the west coast stuck out his hand and said, "Goodbye forever." Probably true, though we might have run into each other somewhere, someday. But I returned the sentiment, and I don't worry about him often.
An ancient and wizened Shinto priest climbed slowly up a long flight of stairs to a small rustic shrine among very old hillside trees; there he set about lighting eight hundred candles. As the night gathered about him, he sat before that carpet of flickering lights, keeping watch. He became one with the night and the sea of candles, and kept to his work, which was only to be glad to have been able to see a thing of such beauty and rarity.
He watched, and was glad. Maybe he slept a little, and the candles made their silent song under the ancient trees in the faint hillside breeze. The priest's lights repeated the manner of the stars that filled the inaccessible part of the night, far away but visible.
In the first light of day, the candles, imitating the stars, began to flicker and go out, one by one, until the room was a place of shadows and outlines and the aged priest was finally all alone.
Slowly he rose and returned down the long stairs to his hut, where he took a little porridge and lay down to sleep. Later in the day, he would teach.
Job’s Physics
So I went forth into the bitterness of morning
My heart bowed low and full of edges
By reason of the chastisement of Holy Job
To wonder if it matters whether the spider
Spinning its web knows what it is doing
Or if the quantum nature of light argues
For or against divine mercy

I agree. If there is a God, then why are we here. See everyone always says God is all knowing. He knows everything that ever was, is now, or ever will be. They also say we will be judged by Him at the end of time and only the faithful will enter Heaven. Well, why wait? Doesn't he already know what we are ever going to do? Judge now, cut to the chase and be efficient. And, don't give me the whole free will thing..he already knows how we are going to exercise that free will right? So, let's get to the judging then? If the end result is a given, and to God the result is a given so they say, what is the purpose of the experiement? To find out what? I thought He knew it all and didn't need to find anything out?

My Dear Friend
I am concerned about you as you have let go of your anchor and will soon be crashing on the rocks of infidelity by believing their is no GOD. Look up the history of France, they were the first modern nation with sanction of their ruling goverment of the time to declare that GOD did not exist.(They substituted GOD with the Lady of Liberty, an Idol) After much pleading GOD retracted his saving grace and the SATANS had total rule over that nation. One of the consequences was the French Revolution. These thoughts start as debate. Useally people only want to believe what they can experience through their senses. Have you ever seen, tasted, touched, heard or smelled your own brain, exclude all the external conditioning and education you have experienced and truly answer this question. You are made in the image of GOD, as an intellectual creation you should know better than to question the excistence of GOD. Most people like you only become aware of GOD when they are in distress. Only under life threatning circumstances because HE is embedded in your soul and it is natural to call out to HIM for help.
Prayer - won't make sense if you approach it rationally. You need something bigger - Faith. Prayer without faith is like pulling water from a well with a bucket with a hole.
I hope you will find your way and I will pray for you.

To answer your question, what good does is do?, none. Until you believe and put your trust is Jesus and your Lord and Saviour, your prayers will not be heard. The only prayer that a lost person can pray is the Prayer of Salvation. I know there will be some that will say they have had their prayers answered, but remember there is also satan who while do anything for you as long as you don't trust in Jesus. Then someday he will not be able to help you and it maybe to late to call Jesus Genesis 6:3

Do you believe that their is just a big void out there? If that's so, where did all the matter that is in our area come from? It could not come from nothing. Also what about the design in things i.e. the human eye, or any eye come to that! Have you any idea how much design there is in a brain? or a muscle? a tree? how about a bird who is designed to fly? you cannot fly! unless you use something DESIGNED to fly! such as an aircraft! Getting the picture??? no one is talking about religion here, just logic! look about and think what man has to do but nature always does it better! something in that VOID is thinking hard and it's not us!!!

I have the same problem. There are times when I feel a need to ask for something....but I don't know who to ask.
Just offer your prayers to "the universe." You don't have to have a particular entity or thing in mind.
It may or may not have any effect, but it can make you feel better.

Any word ( or words) is an expression about a thing.
This thing can be an idea.
Since you used the word GOD, there should be in your inner a thing that have that name: GOD.
In your case , GOD is listening to your prayers to show you how his power affect everything around you , and even in yourself.
Then when you is convinced that GOD is there, you will find happiness, satisfaction, creativity, joy, beauty, majesty, everywhere.
Please let me know when you see GODHOOD in, before and after every thing.

Because if you confessed to talking to yourself they would think you are crazy. But if you say that you are talking to some big all powerful creator of all in the sky for some reason that's alright. Christians I don't understand them. I don't think it is possible to understand someone who has no sense of logic at all though. Say no to jesus

In Islam it says that all humans have the nature to beleive in God in the same way a baby cries when its hungry. people all over the world worship all kinds of things and say its "their God". Allah has said he hears all of our prayers but will not answer all of them (if he answered all you prayers then life will be easy), life is a test the Devil will try to persuade all of us to do bad things. "Allah has said that if we walk to Him, He will run to us!"
