I would very much like to live forever in heaven and all that, and have a jolly nice time. However I find impossible to believe that god came to a small outpost in the Romam empire so that he could die and wash away the effects of original sin, but afterwards we are all still sinners. I love god and all that, it is just the premise of christianity is too much for me, it is just too silly. If i love god and am a good person, but my rational brain tells me that he wouldn't waste his time posing as a human just to get killed when he is omnipitant and great anway, will god still let me into heaven?

you say you have a rational brain. I would suggest that you rationalise your thought process. You would like to live in heaven. You therefore believe in the concept. If there is a heaven, common concensus is that it is populated by nice people, not the hitlers of the world. Therefore there must be an entrance requirement. If the heaven of christian belief exists, then the various translations of the bible must have core truths within them - as the bible is the source of any knowledge about heaven. Rationally, it would be wise of you to study these texts to understand what club you would be joining - you wouldnt just fork out a few hundered quid/dollars to join any old club here on earth - you would want to know what you are getting into.
If you study the texts with a rational mind, you will either accept or reject the concepts within, and in doing so will have made a conscious mature decision based on knowledge and understanding rather than just shooting from the hip. If there is a God, he no doubt would expect some logical thought from the brain that he created to think in logical terms lol!

I really do love the xtian immediate answer to questions like this. There's only the one way - through the late and unlamented JC.

Talk about arrogant. What on earth makes them think that they and only they are right? just because a book (written by men) says so? If that's the case, I'd be dead scared of the organisation SPECTRE if it wasn't for the fact that M sent James Bond to destroy the organisation. You laugh!!! Why, it says it in a book so it must be true.
That's xtian logic. Come to that mohommedan logic also, just a name change or two and mohommed's realisation that xtianity wasn't brutal enough to cow the population and keep them terrified and subjugated.

I reckon the Jews are the correct ones. They tell you to believe in the one God - no saints, martyrs, godlets, children of gods idols etc. Just the one. Even the interpretation of god is not specified as they admit that they don't understand who or what god is in its entirety - they just keep studying in order to try to find out. Go thou, and do likewise.

Wah.... I had to add a bit to comment on the next entry by saz17. Isn't that just what I was complaining about? The bible - by definition the xtian one of course. The jews don't accept the so-called new testament at all and the mohommedans don't accept either old or new. Then what about the other religions of the world? They discuss heaven (or at least an afterlife) as well - somewhat different requirements but yes basically for "good" people (the do tend to define "good" differently though). So, study the Indian holy works, the sikh holy book, the Wiccan "Book of Shadows" maybe even Crowley's Book of the Law. and, and, and. People like saz17 follow one path and insist that it's the only correct one - see above - no offence intended saz17 but it's a blinkered, narrow-minded and non-intellectual approach. Seek knowledge EVERYWHERE.

1 hour later - Oh my! the pesterers are out in force aren't they? They just can't accept that just because it's comfortable, that doesn't make it true. Jesus lived, that's historical fact. Less than 6 direct quotes are known to be his (at least, with reasonable certainty), although 1 of his better known quotes (Love they neighbour as thyself) is actually a quote fomr Rabbi Hillel who lived 500 years or so before JC. JC was quoting somebody else, not himself.

His heretical teachings are known to be his and his blasphemies are also known to be more or less correct but that's all that's known. All the rest was made up by Paul in attempt to create a force that could contest the Roman rule.

Ignore the teachings of the little people. If there is indeed a God, then worship him and him alone. Don't keep making up or accepting fiction that others are either his son or part of him. The xtians insist the there is only the one way because they believe that JC said "I am THE way.........". How arrogant. No wonder he got sent straight downstairs.

Forget the middle men Jesus, Mohommed, Joe Smith et. al. Go direct to the top.

Son of God - is that really possible?

Parthenogenesis is the likey answer

Parthenogenesis is the asexual development of a female ovum into an individual, without the aid of a male agent. It is observed among many lower forms of life such as aphids and also fish. There is also evidence that parthenogenesis can be a successful strategy among lizards living under low and unpredictable rainfall conditions. In laboratory conditions, mice and rabbit embryos have been developed parthenogenetically to a stage equivalent to halfway through pregnancy, but have then been aborted. In recent study, human embryos could be activated occasionally by parthenogenesis using calcium ionophore as a catalyst. Such research raises the prospect that some early human pregnancy losses may have involved the parthenogenetic activation of the embryo.

Well, it was initially part of what was then the small religion of judaism, taken by the "apostles" and Paul of Tarsus and became very popular with the Romans of all people, who spread it throughout their empire. The particular thing that they liked about it was its inclusion of women.

The main growth point was when Constantine took the decision to choose it as the main religion of the Roman empire over Mithraism. He wasn't actually a Christian himself but his wife was.

The rest is history!

Believe the story as truth if you wish, or keep looking, it's up to you. Underneath all of the storybook stuff is some pretty good mysticism and philosophy.

Good luck in your journey.

Faith is believing in something when common sense tells you not to. Hebrew 11.

I know in this world it's difficult to believe in something that you can't see and touch. But you can feel the goodness of God. It's all around you. Try going to church and Bible Study to help with your faith.

God makes a way out of no way. And I've had several miracles in my life, brought about by years and years of praying for it, and having faith. I would have liked it to happen right away, but i learned so much more while i was waiting for it.

Good luck.

Accounts on Jesus, were written from memory of the disciples and this is subjective.
In any case, Jesus did live and he was a leader, with a following. The rest is an account written by his followers and, being human they may have exaggerated some facts and even divinified a mere human.
However if one chooses faith, then one accepts we cannot know the facts on all details, and we base our faith on belief in God and his will for us.
That is the meaning of faith- believing what you may not see, and may not fully understand.
To choose anything else, would mean being faithless. I have lots of questions about endless issues in the bible, but at the end of the day, I have faith, and I guess that's what counts- committing what we do not fully grasp into God's hands, and asking him to accept us with our faults, and our doubts.

When you're driving down the street and you turn into XYZ Street, do you question who put the sign there ...or if that is REALLY XYZ Street? No. You put your faith in that sign AND whoever put it there. Why can't you give God the same benefit of the doubt? God is love. Remember that God is a GUIDE - NOT a storm trooper! If you live by the golden rule, chances are you'll be okay. But remember that you live in a world with people who still have a "Roman soldier mentality." They followed "orders," not their own hearts ... which is why Our Lord's first request of Our Father was, "Father, forgive them, for they KNOW NOT what they do." Most of us live in accordance with what was instilled in us by our parents and our friends. Unfortunately, there ARE parents who were never meant to be parents ... and friends who were never meant to be your friends. If everyone around you AGREED with you, what would be the challenge in that? And forget about "What Would Jesus Do?." NO ONE does what Jesus would do. Ask yourself, "What would Jesus HAVE me do?." God loves you! And God Bless You!

Maybe if we ignore him he'll go away. Seriously though, I agree with you. Why would God create these wonderful creatures (reflective cociousness and all) just to cast them into eternal damnation if they don't worship him for giving them life in the first place. Let's face it, life sometimes seems a white elephant of a gift. Sorry man, not much of an answer.

It's very comforting to me that our God loves us enough to make himself poor and human in order to save us. He had to become man so he could identify with us and we couldn't say he has no idea what it means to be tempted or hurt or betrayed. The sacrifice had also to be made with blood (like the sacrifices of animals in the temple) and the blood had to be from a sinless person, which Jesus was. I realised a long time ago that it's no use fighting the Bible, it's either true or it's not, and as I know that Jesus is true (long testimony) I took that step of putting my trust in god's word. You don't have to understand it to get to heaven but you must put your trust in Jesus.
