I don't see anything really wrong with it -- at 10 years old a girl could start the signs of puberty and possibly have issues with odor and sweat. Get her something girly like Teen Spirit but also explain to her about the proper way to keep herself clean -- showering every morning, using soap, etc. If it makes her feel better, there's really no problem with it.

It really depends on whether she's starting to decelop her own "odor." Once her sweat glands start going, especially with puberty, it's definitely time for her to start wearing deodorant. You can take her to the store and let her pick out her own. They make many brands for teens now, and some of them aren't as strong as the adult brands, so if you're concerned, maybe start her out on those, and she can work ehr way up to the stronger brands in a couple years.

If she believes that she's starting to smell, then not letting her wear deodorant may affect her self esteem, only because she won't want to hang around other people if she believes that she stinks (even if she really doesn't).

Good Luck.

I dont see deoderant as wrong for her age. After all it helps promote good hygene. In addition if she sweats excesivly it is a good idea to let her go ahead and use it.
If she was wanting to wear fish net hose a halter top and 6 inch heels because all her friends did, then I would say no way.
However she is 10 and still in the stage where her body is beginning to mature and she is still a child.

Deodorant is not a bad habit to get a child into early. I would rather get them started now, then have them come home with massive B.O. and have to convince them they need it because they stink. As long as they dont ask to get a tattoo or anything... "just because her friends are doing it..." Deodorant is fine.

It won't hurt her to start using deodorent and other toiletries at that age. Just make sure you teach her how to use them properly and not to use too much so that her pleasant fragrance isn't offensive to others around her.

They make products for younger pre-teens to use, besides it will get her started in learning how to take care of herself as she gets older. Teach her young and teach her right.

Good luck.

Not unless she needs it, for heaven's sake. She'll get old fast enough. All her friends probably do a lot of silly things that little girls (which she is) don't need to do, but of course they are all influenced by celebs and TV ads. As long as she is not yet pubescent, she probably doesn't need it. Body powder would be fine. ( A grandma's opinion which I'm sure she would not appreciate!)

as others have said ,,,It wont hurt her. we are getting ready to find teenish deodorant for our 8yr old son ..because we live in Arizona and he has problems with heat rash and sweating badly ...each child is different but children are developing at younger and younger ages these days....has something to do with all the additives we put in our foods now-days

Yes, girls are growing fast, they need it. Buy her a body spray or deodorant no anti-prespirant. She might start noticing her body odours. Remember the hormones, the odour... I have a daughter who uses body spray.

buy her some now even if she doesn't need it yet. playing with it now will help her get into the habbit when she does need it. Once her breasts have budded, it is time for deoderant on a daily basis. It won't be long until it is noticed after that.
