Because a cat hater will be given a cat the least amount of attention, rather than staring at it (staring is threatening to cats) or constantly stroking it.
In other words, FROM A CATS PERSPECTIVE, a human who is ignoring him is the nicest, least threatening human in the room, while the humans who are all over the cat are making him nervous.

I read in a cat book recently that when cats are around other cats (or people) it's actually confrontational to look them in the eyes. People who not like cats, don't look at them so therefore they interpret that as being friendly.

the answer Ange_172 gave is correct, its all to do with the lack of eye contact. People who hate cats will tend to not look a them, the cat sees this as being unhostile and will often approach the horrified person

I'm stunned by how many cat owners didn't know the answer to that one. Its the eye contact, and the desperate way many cat lovers try to get the cat to sit on them, its too much.
As for slobs, I'm allergic to cat fur so would prefer not to have it wiped over my face. In return I'll stop my dog from jumping on you with his muddy paws, or growling at you when you shift your position in the chair. Deal?

It could be because cats are so gracious and forgiving, trying one person at a time to change faulty opinions regarding their aloof characters. NOT! It's actually because of their twisted sense of humor and ability to humiliate stuffed shirts. It's a riot to watch some poor cat-hater slob have to put up with Muffy sliming his trouser cuffs with cat hair. He's in the house of a cat-lover and has to pretend that Muffy and her hairballs are adorable.

It's all in the eyes.
People who like cats tend to look at them, and in cat language a direct gaze is challenging or even threatening.
People who don't like cats tend not to look at them, and in cat language an averted gaze signifies courtesy, trust and approval.

You know, I've always wondered this. I love my cat, but she always goes to my friend who hates cats. I think its sorta like people with playing hard to get.

Because they have a sense of humour and they like teasing people. They are really amused with annoying people who can't stand them. They pretend to be casual about it, but they laugh inside. Seriously.

Because they NEED attention and to be noticed by EVERYONE. If they don't get what they want it drives them nuts! I'm a cat lover and have friends who aren't. My friends learned to tolerate them of course.

To make you love them and to make you see that they are wonderful! They just want to be loved. AND they need food and water. My cat came to me,he was skin and bones. I took care of him and we're pals. I have him 5 years now.
