Basenji are small, unusual, elegant, athletic dogs about the size of a fox terrier, with a smooth shiny coat of copper, red, black and tan, black and brindle. Usually with white feet and white on the chest and tip of the tail. Individuals may also sport a white facial blaze, white legs and/or a white collar. The back is level; the legs are long, and the forehead is furrowed with wrinkles, giving it a worried look. The ears are straight and open in the front and its tail is set high and curls up over and slightly to either side of the back. Its eyes are small and almond shaped. Its thighs are muscular, and it has a flat skull. The breed has a distinctive, horse-like running gait. The Basenji does not bark, but does have a lot of other unusual vocalizations. He may yodel, howl, growl or crow, depending on his mood. Unlike most other domestic breeds, which have two heats per year, the female Basenji comes into heat only once a year.

The Basenji is alert, affectionate, demanding, energetic and curious. It loves to play and makes a good pet, as long as it is handled regularly from an early age. It is very intelligent, responds well to training with a strong desire to please. They can be reserved with strangers. The Basenji is somewhat aloof, but can also form strong bonds with people. The Basenji washes itself like a cat and has no doggie smell, so very little grooming is needed. This is a good dog for people with allergies. This breed sheds little to no hair.

Our family dog is an 8 year old German Shepard. He is great with childen. The best babysitter a person could have. He listens well and is very protective of our family. God forbid if someone tries to come in our fenced in yard without permission. He's very loving and plays catch too. Lots of fun! Behaves in the house too. A good indoor-outdoor dog.So in my opinion, it's the German Shepard by far.

I think the best breed is the one that fits your life style. If you are a couch potato, don't get a breed that loves to walk and play. If you are extremely athletic, don't get a small dog that can't keep up or tires easily.

My best breed is the Golden Retriever.

All dogs are great, but I think the Bassett Hound is the greatest, They are loyal, gentle, not too big and not too small, huge ears and feet soft and great to look at, they always pull a crowd when your out walking, but get 2 cos they like company if left alone

I have got a cross Alsatian/bull mastiff . she is very clever and very friendly. she loves little kids, especially when we mix them in with her dinner. just joking. if you ever have a pet dog and you have kids go for the bitches. they are more likely to stay near to where they live and they will protect the kids with their lives if necessary. dogs(males) will try and be dominant all the time. great if you have no kids. there is no BEST breed of dog coz everyone thinks their own dog is the best. and fair play to them.

The best dog is whatever works for you. My favorite happens to be Siberian Husky, because they are smart, fun to play with, and very expressive. Both mine came from the humane society and are probably mixed breeds. Mixed breeds tend to be healthier, avoiding the disease that comes from overbreeding.

I will only have a mixed breed "Mutt" .
And a puppy or dog rescued from the city shelter is my choice, wish I could take them all home.

Depends on what you are looking for in a dog....but, my favorite is a Black Lab. I own one, He's a gentle giant, loyal, family dog, loves the water. He is also beautiful! But, you need lots of space.
