The polygamy rule was set for different purpose! Fertility issues and so!!! Not pleasure and numbers!
For that all wives have exactly the same status and are entitled to identical rights and claims over their husband. It also implies, according to the Islamic Law, that should the husband fail to provide enough support for any of his wives, she can go to the court and ask for a divorce.

Some other stated reasons are:

She may be barren or ill and see in polygamy a better solution than divorce.
She may divorce him (unilaterally) if he is married to a second wife provided that the nuptial contract gives her the right of unilateral divorce.
She can go to court and ask for a divorce if there is evidence of mistreatment or injustice inflicted upon her.

It is mentioned in the Quran that all of the wives should be treated equally, and if one of them feels otherwise, it is punishable... Literally it is saying :

"If you fear that you shall not be able to deal justly, marry women of your choice, you may marry two, or three, or four; but if you fear that you shall not be able to deal justly with them, then marry only one, You are never able to be fair and just as between women even if it is your ardent desire"

Meaning:
That polygamy is neither mandatory, nor encouraged, but merely permitted.

That the permission to practice polygamy is not associated with mere satisfaction of passion. It is rather associated with compassion toward widows and orphans, a matter that is confirmed by the atmosphere in which the verse was revealed.
That even in such a situation, the permission is far more restricted than the normal practice which existed among the Arabs and other people at that time when many married as many as ten or more wives.
That dealing justly with one’s wives is an obligation. This applies to housing, food, clothing, kind treatment..etc., for which the husband is fully responsible. If one is not sure of being able to deal justly with them, the Quran say: “then(marry) only one.”

The verse which allows polygamy in Islam “was revealed after a battle in which many were killed, leaving widows and orphans for whom due care was incumbent upon the Muslim survivors.

You see what I am trying to say here? That it is not encouraged to do so, but there are certain reasons or conditions where it is permissible and allowed. If he married a woman and love her so much and dont want to divorce her because she cant have babies... so he marrys another.. :)

PS: I am a muslim, but if I get married and my husband wants another wife!! HA HA! I wont allow it LOL

My husband has a friend who's father has 4 wives. They each have their own apartments in the same building and he has 13 children. His first wife was a lot older than him and had 4 children. She was devoted to her religion and so spent a lot of time on worship and didn't have time for her husband and didn't want anymore children whereas he did, which gave him reason to marry a second wife. He asked his first wife to choose a bride for him and she was happy enough to do so. (A requirement of marrying more than 1 is that you gain permission or at least advise your wife of your intentions so that she is aware of the reason). He had 6 children with his second wife when she had to have her uterus removed, therefore being unable to give him anymore children which he wanted more of, and so he married his third. I'm not too sure of the reason why he had to marry the fourth one, but I think u get the picture. He still works and provides for all and his older children also help out by giving their parents money and buying things for the home. He spends one night at each house and goes around in a cycle. I don't know that one can treat them each equally, but they all seem to be happy and get along well. They treat the first wife with a lot of respect and look up to her, maybe because she is older and wiser. His fourth wife is younger than his eldest son who has never met her or her children because he lives halfway on the other side of the world.

first of all,it's something personal for you know it,unless somebody from yahoo answers, would stand out and really answer your question in details.Ofcourse that would be muslim with four wives.(haha! i can't wait)

It's part of their religion to be allowed getting married four times. as long as there's consent to the current legitimate wife.
