Dear sister in Christ,

Our sister tolquit did a good job of listing the Fruit (by the way, it is the FRUIT not fruits--no offense intended) but I believe you were looking the gifts of the Holy Spirit. I will list them below:

1) Word of Wisdom
2) Word of Knowledge
3) Faith
4) Healings
5) Working of miracles
6) Prophecy
7) Discernment of spirits
8) Speaking in tongues
9) Interpretation of tongues
10) Apostles
11) Prophets
12) Teachers
13) Miracles
14) Healings
15) Helps
16) Administrations
17) Varieties of tongues
18) Prophecy
19) Ministry
20) Teaching
21) Exhortation
22) Giving
23) Leading
24) Showing mercy
25) Apostles
26) Prophets
27) Evangelists
28) Pastors and,
29) Teachers

Now, this list has been compiled from 4 places in the New Testament.

1 Corinthians 12:4-14
1 Corinthians 12:27-30
Romans 12:6-8
Ephesians 4:11

As you have noticed, a lot of them either overlap and are repeated. A majority of theologians agree on there being nine-fold Fruit of the Spirit and nine gifts of the Spirit (although Catholic church seems to hold twelve-fold Fruit. Evangelicals hold nine-fold). So once again, to refine our list I will relist the gifts of the Spirit.

1) Word of wisdom
2) Word of knowledge
3) Faith
4) Healing(s)
5) Miracles
6) Prophecy
7) Discernment of spirits
8) Speaking in tongues
9) Interpretation of tongues

Please note that these are the Charismatic gifts of the Spirit. The rest may be classified as Administrative or Personal gifts. In other words, the Charistmatic gifts are primarily for the edification and building up of the Church.

That being said, the meanings would be as follows:

1) Word of wisdom - God-given wisdom in a specific situation at a specific time to benefit the Church of a specific individual. It is not planned and almost always the giver does not foreknow about it. It just happens "out of the blue".

2) Word of knowledge - God-given specific insight into a certain individual's life. Other people may label it "psychic" or a specific revelation about someone at a given time. Kind of relative to Word of wisdom.

3) Faith - some people possess that unwavering faith in God. It is not just the "regular" faith in God but very special faith. Refer to Hebrews 11 for the Faith Hall of fame.

4) Healing(s) - physical, emotional, psychological and spiritual healing(s).

5) Miracles - anything that defies the laws of physics is a miracle. God performs miracles today just as much as He did before. I have seen miracles and healings take place in front of my own eyes so no one can tell me different. :)

6) Prophecy - it is for the edification, exhortation and comfort of the Church [1 Corinthians 14:3-4]

7) Discernment of spirits - the (cap)ability to distinguish whether it's an evil spirit, God's spirit or man's spirit talking. Kind of what Jesus did when He rebuked Peter saying, "Get thee behind me, Satan."

8) Speaking in tongues - there are 3 kinds of tongues in the New Testament: tongues to build oneself up in the Spirit, tongues to be able to speak a foreign language without ever having learnt the language and lastly the tongue(s) to which the interpertation pertains. The last kind of tongues come all of a sudden with no prior intent or knowledge of the messenger/giver.

9) Interpretation of tongues - translating/interpreting God's message to the congregation to encourage/rebuke them and/or build them up.

There are people in whom all the gifts of the Spirit operate simultaneously, Paul the apostle being one example, but even in modern day and age, God may choose to bestow all of the gifts upon a certain individual, however that usually is quite rare. Mostly it's the system of "checks and balances" so no one gets too arrogant about their gifts or their "level of holiness". God's desire is for the whole church to participate in one way or another. Remember, all these gifts are for us--the believers, today.

Hope this helped your understanding.

Have a great day and God bless.

Peace and love in Jesus!

The "charismatic" gifts are listed in 1 Corinthiansn 12:7-10. These are supernatural gifts that manifest themselves as needed within Christians as God wills.

The "personal" gifts are listed in Romans 13:5-8. These are different types of "personalities" that people have, and how to develop those personalities for use by God.

The "ministry" gifts are listed in Ephesians 4:11-13. These are callings that God places on people lives to make them a gift to the rest of the church.
