i work at a gas station and the people that do drive offs make me so mad, we had 5 of them sunday. and then the managment gets mad and thinks that were not doing our jobs and watching people close enough. its kinda hard to watch everyone when youve got 10 or 12 people pumping gas and a line of customers buying other items, and then when you call the police to report it the first they they say is did you get a license number, i dont know about anyone else but i cant read a license plate number from 100 foot away as a car is driving off. well we just caught a guy lastnight and finally got his licence number, it was the 3rd time this month he has drove off on us so the clerk recognized the car and made sure he got close enough to get it. but they wont even charge or prosecute for that, they are just gonna go pick him up and make him pay for the gas he stole and then let him go. that is B.S. if he came in the store and shoplifted they will arrest you. but they wont for gas. its still theft

Some of the people do it because they're cheap and would steal anything that wasn't nailed down.

Some are just so poor and have to decide between buying food for their family or buying gas yet need to have gas to keep their jobs. So out of despiration, they steal gas.

Figure a tank of gas runs between 35.00 and 45.00 per tank, and the minimum wage worker only brings home 150.00 per week at best. If they have a family, they have to pay for housing and food.

I see those folks as just trying to fulfill the needs of their family. Not that what they're doing isn't wrong, it's just some are backed into these situations by greedy oil companies.

I'd be more irritated with the management at your gas stations for expecting employees to be "all seeing" You have to wait on customers, watch the goods in the store and have bionic eyes to watch the pumps as well.

Your store should install cameras at the pumps or make it pre-paid only.

I am going to be honest when I answer this question. I am one of the people who have stolen gas before and I know it was wrong but I have valid reasons. I am a single mother raising two kids on my own and sometimes after paying my bills and child care and food, I don't have enough left over for gas to get to work everyday. So I stole it. Not once but twice. And to be honest with you, I have gone back and given what I stole when I got the extra money because the guilt was killing me. That's the honest to God truth. I won't be doing it again as I have worked out a better budget but that's what the case was last year. I apologize to you for the inconvenience it causes you.

I don't hate the people, but what they are doing is wrong. It would seem the punishment would be a bit more severe than restitution. Perhaps your managers could require and set the pumps to be pre-pay only, which has become the dominant means of preventing drive-offs. Pay at the pump or come inside and pay in advance, and you eliminate the risk.

I try this each and all of the time, yet purely using fact the place I stay, various the employees have project getting orders suitable (approximately seventy 5% of the time). this is partial language barrier for some and partial stupidity for others. The language barrier i'm able to understand, not each and every person in my city grows up in an english talking enjoyed ones. not elementary yet comprehensible. Stupidy isn't comprehensible although. additionally, various them are only basic dumb little ones who desire to slack off. they don't understand artwork ethics and artwork satisfaction. i don't care what line of artwork you're in, you're able to nonetheless do your interest to the main suitable of your skill. some get it suitable, yet maximum of them do not. There could desire to be different motives for his or her mess ups, yet maximum folk of the time, those are the significant motives. i've got discovered you desire to be direct and authoritative with them to get what you like the way which you ordered them, otherwise, they at the instant are not getting it in any respect or only basic do not care. chatting with the administrative would not do something using fact they don't care the two. then you certainly get abode with nutrition for the kinfolk and 50% of the order is incorrect and could not get eaten (for notwithstanding motives) except you're making yet another holiday back as much as get the order fixed the way you initially asked for it. What am i able to assert, it isn't the main suitable equipment, yet upon getting screwed over maximum of circumstances, you get sick of being extreme high quality to idiots who do not supply a rat's *** approximately doing their artwork suitable.

Where I live they have video cameras that record your license plate number when you drive up. Ask your manager to install those.

I AGREE WITH YOU WHOLE HEARTEDLY, IT IS REALLY COMMON HERE IN WISCONSIN. I JUST DON'T UNDERSTAND WHY THE LAW WON'T PROSECUTE STEALING IS STEALING.

IT'S A SHAME BECAUSE THOSE OF US WHO DO PAY FOR EVERYTHING ARE UNDER THE WATCH OF GAS STATION ATTENDANTS ALSO.
