The DSC-H5 is a great camera for a great price. Here's a full review: http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/sonyh5/page15.asp
If it's a bit over budget, you'll have to drop some features. You could look for cameras with less zoom, or without image stabilization, or with less megapixels, etc. Here's a great site where you can play around with that kind of stuff, to see what's available: http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/compare.asp

You could consider the Sony DSC H1. It's a 2005 model, has 5 vs 7 MP, 2 1/2 vs 3 in. LCD, but otherwise has about same features as the H5. You can get one of these new for about $325. Less $$$ used on Ebay.

You can watch for sales on the H5. Best Buy just had the H5 on a Labor Day sale for $359 (minus any BB coupons you can find).

You could consider the Panasonic Lumix FZ7. It's not quite as good as H5, but is similar and got very good reviews. It's about $280 new.

Good Luck
