My husband loves the name Taran for a boy, and wants to call our first born son this. I'm not sure whether or not I like it. My parents hate the name, but what does everyone else think?

Its actually the name of the main character in Disney's The Black Cauldron. Thats where he got it from. I like the name its self but think that my son would get teased at school.

I’m not known to always agree with parents, but I think I will on this occasion.
Actually, ‘Taran’ to me sounds more like a girl’s name than a boy’s.
I certainly wouldn’t want to see you get in an argument with your husband, but perhaps you could suggest that if he really likes ‘Taran’ as a name, you could use it as a ‘middle’ name.
Perhaps you could pick a relative’s name that you like, then tell your husband that you would really like to name your son after so-and-so.

What if he becomes a lawyer or doctor or respectable something? Maybe give him a conservative name like Thomas or William, and call him by his middle name Taran. He'd always have the other name if he felt it would give him more respectibility. He could sign his name W. Taran Smith (or whatever). Cool.

Taran is alsoa Ukrainian music ensemble!!!! My ex wife's brother and sister-in-law came up with Gish as a name for their son after she drempt it one night!!! Now I know that 'odd' names are more popular these days but I don't tend to be that keen personally.
sincerely,

You both need to decide on a name you both like and can agree on... Maybe use Taran for a middle name if you don't like it as well as your hubby does..

Whoo .. thats an emotive subject right there.

As names go it seems alright to me but this is one of those questions that really cant be answered by us.

You need to decide if you are happy with it .. bear in mind the child will probably carry it for life and so you need to be very sure. I think its one of those things that just seems to 'click into place' for the parents I know and a name just 'seems right' .

I think it's great you're going for something with originality, but the name "Taran" sucks lol

actually it's a very weird name try to convince him in an another name a name that u both like who cares what your parents like. and think about the society and there reaction to your son's name so he wont be a geek.. but you know if he wants to be popular he will no matter what he's named

It is a weird name. Did he make it up? I don't like trendy, unusual names. That is what everybody goes for these days. Just give him a normal name that he can live with and doesn't have to spell and or explain to everybody he meets for the rest of his life.
