Dogs can certainly get colds and like humans, they are caused by a virus. The most common "cold" that dog can get is Bordetella and Canine Flu virus. These viruses seldom cause sneezing, but usually manifest as a cough such as kennel cough or the Canine Influenza that was first seen in Greyhounds is being seen now. So far 22 states have reported cases.

Just because your dog is sneezing does not mean that he has a virus....he could have sniffed something up his nostrils....dust....pollen....grass seed etc. (Hound breeds are notorious for sniffing everything they find)

Look in his/her nose to see if you can see any foreign objects. Sometimes dogs have what is called "reversed sneezing". Actually, the dogs trachea is narrowed or collapsing. This condition is more common in toy breeds and like humans, dogs can suffer from inhalant allergies, but mostly allergies manifest themselves as skin problems, itching and ear problems in canines.

If there is a secondary infection that's caused by bacteria, antibiotics are a common choice for treating these problems. For most cases of viral infection, supportive treatment is usually indicated such as good nutrition and fluids if need be.

If your dog continues to sneeze....or begins to cough and does not seem to feel well. (lethargic, not drinking or eating) or any other symptoms occur....please take him to a vet.

You're dog could have a cold or hay-fever or an allergic reaction to some new smell in your home. Dogs get the same symptoms as most people suffering from any of the above. Keep a close eye to see if a runny nose/ rash develops and if the dog is not better in 2/3 days consult your vet.

its sad but true......our furry 4 legged friends can get the snuffles. however just cos the little guy is sneezing it doesnt necessarily mean he's got a cold. it could be house dust or polish or air freshener. it could simply be a stray hair lodged up pooches snout. if it continues for moore than a couple of days i'll state the obvious an tell you to get the vet to check it out to be on the safe side.

Yes, but sneezing may just as likely be an allergy, or a foreign body stuck in the nose. (Or, come to that, my dog sneezes when she gets excited...)

If it's just an occasional sneeze, then it's probably nothing to worry about, but if it's all the time take him/her to the vet to make sure that there is nothing up there that is causing irritation.

Yes they get colds. Upper respiratory diseases, and kennel cough, I think are the most common. Both need to be treated with antibiotics. If you have recently kenneled the dog, it is possible that he or she got kennel cough. You can prevent this next time by getting a Bortadella vaccine a few weeks before you kennel them. It is pretty common in kennels. Most importantly you need to bring your dog to the vet and get him on the antibiotics to help him fight his cold. Best wishes to you and your dog!!

Yes and they can also have allergies so it might be that that has started him sneezing. See if you have used any different furniture polish, air freshener, floor cleaner and so on. I can't use on type of plug in refill cos it makes mine sneeze!

Yes. Our beloved family Fido got kennel cold a few times when leaving him in a kennel for holidays. The viruses they get are similar, but not harmful to humans.
