In asking this to speak of Christendom as a whole is fraught with idolatry, like that of ancient Israel, and like that nation before they were cast into captivity. Worshipped God, but also worshipped others gods (idolatry) as well - so be honest with yourself and search in your heart - what is the idols you keep there? The question is posed because we as a people have become powerless to transform culture where we are at. What do you see as those idols that we need to cast out of our hearts.

Church in itself can be an idol, when we seek to please men rather than obey God, keeping to traditions of men, instead of obeying the Holy Spirit in the way we proclaim the gospel for example.

"Well, we've always done things this way, so this is the way we should continue", is an attitude which has emptied churches throughout the modern Church. Men not willing to change, and so younger people particularly have moved on to where the Spirit of the Lord is evident. This is just one of the reasons why so many places of worship have closed. I see this in the Uk even today, even in the area where I live. Man's traditions have become idols.

Music in our churches can be an idol. As we read in the Psalms, Music is used by the Psalmist to worship God, but sometimes Christians can be in the habit of worshipping the music instead.

Our smart clothes, or big Bible, can even be idols. Man looks on the outward appearance, but God looks on the heart.
I can remember as a child, how excitement would mount each Easter by various Christian women, in my own community churchs, as to who would have the best hat on. - How sad, when I look back. Easter just like Christmas often looses their meaning.

Anything in Christendom which is not entirely God focused is an idol.

The above examples are just a few!

i happen to have a crucifix, but it isn't in my closet, it's around my neck.

My other idol is my self-righteousness, i wear it on my bumper, speak it to my neighbors.. it is apparent when i do everything to show how bad homosexuals and trans people are compared to how good heterosexuality and heteronormative body images as well as socially acceptable gender identities are rather than working on the problems of world hunger, poverty and healthcare.

Money is my other idol. I love it very much and i'm very good at using God as a justification for it.

Also, my Christian membership. It is like my own little club.

Please do not think that this is a sarcastic post. It isn't. These are all realizations i have come to about myself. I am very ashamed of them. I am currently trying to make amends for it. I have been esteeming myself very highly and pointing out the ills of the world while focussing on finding proofs that i am doing good things for God in this world. But, upon examination, I have realized that anyone can find proof and justification for anything, and it doesn't mean that they are necessarily loving their neighbor, or even truly serving their God.

These have been, and in some cases still are my idols...

Christian don't refer it as idol, never. It's a symbol. There is a fine line between the two.

Well, there's the white leisure suit I bought in the 1970's. I'm just waiting for it to come back into fashion.

The chicks really idolised it back then, though...
