Legal immigrants cannot get a green card or a H1B visa unless they have a home; and if not admitted on the basis of marriage, etc. they have to have a job, since that's the basis for their entry (Diversity Lottery excepted).
Illegal immigrants get neither, so if you mean that, then you've been smoking something funny. (Those who work off the books or under a phony name are committing a crime, as are those who employ them -- although the employer often gets off by lying about what he knows.)

The simple answer to your question is that they are not. Anyone seeking council housing must join the list. A points system usually operates. This means priority goes to those people who are classified as 'families' - mum, dad and the kids. Singles are seldom ever offered council housing. Much of what we hear or read about immigrants being given homes and jobs before locals of plain propaganda of the ultra-RIGHT WING kind. Strict rules apply when seeking council property.

This is so that the government look good to the outside world. They did the same when the boxing day Tsunami struck, they suddenly found million upon millions to pledge, ooh look at us, aren't we good.
I must stipulate that I think this it right to help the less fortunate, however charity does begin at home.
The British people are constantly holding charity events to raise money for hospital equipment in Britain, when the government could suddenly find this money and solve the problem.

as to some of you plonkers that have given answers i served the the British army serving in Ireland Belize and the Falklands i have never been unemployed always payed my taxes and still cant get a council house do you think i am bitter (yes i am ) England has gone to pot if i were p,m for just one day i would get rid of the lot and the reasons?
1 nhs would not be over stretched
2 housing for every body
3 employer would have to pay better wages
4 yes you would pay more in taxes but then you would be earning more
5 house prices would be lower ( more houses)
6 got to be a better England don't you think
7 don't care if you don't

Where I live they also get a car allowance because of poor transport facilities £2000 for a car each. hey thats not bad why dont we also get £2000 for a car we have the same transport problems! I will tell you why because we are english not this multi cultural brish colour that can be pretty much anyone these days.

Government and EU policy. They have removed the borders from around Britain, they just haven't bothered asking, or informing you that it has happened. We have a totalitarian government, and the British people voted for it. So well done to the left-wing TV media, left-wing teachers/university lecturers, the public sector, and other ideologues for indoctrinating the people and, as a consequence, killing off the country. It is all about qualification. I doubt that any employer would prefer to hire somone on the basis of whether he is an immigrant or not. You just have to be qualified for the job you apply for...
As for the homes....where do they give them for free? I've been saving for a house for years, I wouldn't say no to a free home... ;)

i could say because they work for pennies but they get paid more than us even on the social they get more i heard they even get money for clothes cars and other things that we dont get thet shud all just jump on a boat and go home if there countrys so bad to live in why do they leave there familys behind

People who come to the UK seeking work have to go through various processes too numerous to mention.
As an employer if I want to take on an economic migrant then I have to check their legal status in the UK, I have to check and be satisfied they are who they claim to be and then have to do other checks such as health checks and get a letter from their embassy stating they are of good character, and finally they have to apply for a CRB disclosure.
This is not an easy procress for the applicant or the employer.
