That may not be due to the section, it may just be that she feels closer to her daughter cos she was the first born. Could she maybe suffering from post natal depression?

She could be suffering from depression. Was this baby planned or unplanned? Sometimes if it was a difficult pregnancy or birth or even if the baby was unplanned or unwanted it could take time for bonding. It's definitely an adjustment having a new baby around, especially if your other children are really small. She will have her hands full having had a c-section that's for sure. But she should not be feeling so detached from her baby. I would be concerned about that. Her husband and family should help her out so she doesn't feel so overwhelmed and give her the quality time with the baby to bond as well as ensure she gets plenty of rest. A baby always knows it's mother and will sense her feeling of detachment. It's important to bond in these early days and for the baby to feel love and not stressed which isn't good for either of them.

Having a section shouldn't cause any difference in her feeling towards her children. It may have more to do with how she percieves the section and the reasons for having a section in the first place.
I had an emergency section with my daughter who was in distress, she was ventilated for a week after. I had severe post-natal depression and felt like a complete failure. Because of the birth problems I had an elective section with my son and had no problems what so ever.

some women wont bond as quicky if you are feeling ill or sore straight after a c section, as the dad or the grandparents help out more, or your friend is slight depressed, i know by experience if you have a very needy baby, crying etc constant, its harder to bond and be the perfect mother when your feeling so tired. the bond is there, it will just take longer for her to notice it

She should because she bore both children in her womb. How they were delivered should not make a diiference;as long as they are well and alive that's all that should count!! Maybe she wanted a girl more than a boy.

how can a mother differentiate among two of her own children......Its like selecting which one of your eyes do you prefer. I think time will give her the optimal bonding
