Use standard fonts and sizes. I usually use ariel 10,11,12 for the body of the type (depending on how I am doing filling up the page) and then make the Headers (like Objective) BOLD and 1 or 2 fonts larger. And use good quality white paper, not just copy paper.

Keep it on one page.

No personal data, this is not a dating service. Just; Name, address, phone and email.

Use Bullet points with "action" words to describe your accomplishments. (Created, Designed, Implemented, Enacted) use a thesaurus.

And do not forget spell check (as you did with your question).

Here is a quick resource to verify my opinions;

I use this format:

Objective
Skills Summary - Paragraph giving an overview of what you have been doing and where you can best apply your talents.
Experience - bullets
Job History (company names and dates)
Education

When you go to the interview you need to take with you; a leather portfolio, to hold a tablet of paper for notes on one side, a couple of fresh copies of your resume, your prepared reference list and complete contact info for all previous jobs on the other side. (you may be filling out a job application.)

References List - Make sure you get your references enthusiastic agreement and complete contact information. They should not be relatives, but teachers or former employers who can positively talk about your strengths. And they should be current or long term contacts.

And as a bonus I will give you my secret weapon, that resulted in a job offer, 80 - 90% of the time. Immediately after the first interview, write a very brief thank you note, to all who interviewed you at the company, (personel, your future boss, and whoever). Each must be unique, thanking them for their time, reiterating something you disussed with them, and expressing your continued interest in the company and the job. Of course to do this you must have their complete contact info. So ask for their cards and take a few pertinent notes while you are interviewing.

Just add all experience and education possible. But be to the point when wrighting objectives and experience. They like a fat resume, but one they can scan through quickly. Make sure you have dates and references. Don't fancy up the fonts, remember proffessional.

Hi, I write professional resumes. It depends on which is more relevant to the position being applied for as to which comes first. If you are applying for a professional position of which your educational background is of most significance then put it first. If practical experience is required then put employment history first. For most positions employment history comes first. Yes, include your personal details such as name, address, phone, email, but date of birth is optional.
Use larger, bolder font for headings, and just standard (times new roman) font in size 12 for body. Include a skills summary in bullet points.

I would suggest you take some professional help (for FREE) from MS word which has inbuilt resume templates for making your resume.

You can also follow the step-by-step instruction to make your free resume, using the resume builder provided with MS office.

Resume styles differ according to profession, and sources of sample resumes are available in my profile, check my profile for more details, all the best :)

try to keep it one page or two at the most. Include education and work history. Put your objective at the beginning
