1. Elope
2. Cut the guest list. About half of your total costs will go toward feeding all those people, so the less people you have, the less you'll spend. Cut, cut, cut!
3. Get creative in your planning. Chose a gallery over a banquet hall. Have a cake and champagne reception instead of a full course meal. Hire a student photographer instead of a professional one. Use wildflower bouquets instead of orchids. Ask a friend to record the ceremony and skip a videographer.
4. Get crafty. Make your own invitations, programs, favors, and decorations.

Easiest way? Go to the court house or city hall and get married there. It will cost you under $100.
If your heart is set on a wedding with guests, then the only way to go about it is to invite less people. Invite 10 people total and spend $150 on each of them rather than inviting 50 people and only spending $25 each. Weddings are supposed to be celebrations of your joining, your friends, and your family. You aren't doing a great job celebrating them or treating them like guests if they have to buy their own beer, bring their own food, eat nasty BBQ, or serve them costco bulk trays. So instead, cut the guest list and treat them like honoured guests and true friends. : )

I tell you anything cater is $$$$,,, we are paying 10,000 just to feed people but we wanted a formal wedding.
There are lots of things you can do... fire halls, parks, backyard weddings. It just depend on how fancy or how causal of a wedding you want. Also check around, ask friends what they did but PLEASE buy an etiquette book... my biggest complaint with weddings is that people do that TACKIEST stuff to save a dollar and don't think about it. I was at one wedding where they didn't have any drinks... just punch and they didn't feed us dinner just crappy little appetizers... I was horrible, everyone just wanted to get the he ll out of there. We all went out to eat after the wedding. I was a bridesmaid so I got to spend $200 on a dress, plus shoes and a gift and then I didn't even get fed!!

Both of you need to sit down and deside what kind of wedding you want. After this plan what you are willing to spend for the wedding. Each wedding can be different but are always special. I highly recommend you don't short yourself on what you want just because of money. Try hard to fulfill your dreams. After those two steps are done you can probably come pretty close with some creative thinking!

depends on what you mean by an arm and a leg? I got married for about $2000, and that incl. EVERYTHING. I made my own cake. I got a dress on clearance. we got married at a chapel. had the reception at a golf hall, and it was great. only had 50 close friends and relatives. kept the flowers to a minimum. no limo. no stupid extras. most people do not care about all the extravagant bullsh*t, just make sure the food and music are good. remember, its the marriage, not the wedding, that matters.

Since you asked a question and there are no details here it goes:
Invite only family.
Get a used/or sample rack gown or use your mom's gown.
Have 1 bridesmaid and bridesgroom.
Have a small buffet in your backyard for about 20 people or so.
Buy wedding invitations from Hallmark and write them yourself.
For your bouquet pick the flowers from your backyard.
And save save for your honeymoon, house or car.

There are certain things you can do to save some serious cash:
1. Make your own favors
2. Buy your dresses at a discount bridal store or catch a really good sale
3. If you know any vendors personally, (bakers, cateres, DJ's, Etc) see if they will do your wedding for free or at a discount. At our wedding our DJ was a close friend of my husband's and charged us nothing.

invite no more than 20 people, don't do the whole church, lunch, dinner thing. Just do curch and reception and then a small reception with bits to eat and drink. Watch who does the flowers and the type of drinks you serve... that way it shouldn't cost more than a normal party. Hope that helps
