Sometimes right when i'm on the edge of falling alseep I feel like I'm falling and then wake with a shudder. What causes this?

It's your muscles relaxing and probably your middle ear settling too.

Your middle ear cause you to feel every sensation of falling, spinning and being off balanced. This usually is a normal thing for those who really relax after a hard day.

Years ago I read that it is a throwback from when we were all apes, and used to have to cling to the tree branches at night when we fell asleep, and it was a defence mechanism so we wouldn.t fall to the ground. Can't say I believe it though, or why aren't apes still evolving today before our eyes?!

I think it happens if you are over tired and you fall asleep too quickly, other than that I don't know

you become too relaxed quickly and your nerves jump from being over relaxed. It's a weird feeling, but it's normal...
