Safety and securityFollowing the Government’s reduction in security levels from critical to severe, passengers are reminded that strict security remains in place at all UK airports. This easing of restrictions is not a return to normal.

The revised regulations will continue to have an impact on our airport's operations. All passengers will be subject to hand baggage restrictions and are asked to be patient while these additional security measures are in place as delays are likely. Passengers are asked to allow extra time for their journey and to arrive at the airport prepared.

Hand baggage restrictions
Passengers are now permitted to carry ONE item of hand baggage, no larger than the specified size, through the airport security search point. The dimensions are as follows:

45 centimeters long (approximately 17.7 inches)
35 centimeters high (approximately 13.7 inches)
16 centimeters long (approximately 6.2 inches)


Please note

All laptops and large electrical items (eg a large hairdryer) must be removed from the bag and placed in a tray so that such items neither obscure nor are obscured by the bag.

Pushchairs and walking aids are permitted but must be x-ray screened. Wheelchairs are permitted but must be thoroughly searched.

Further passenger information
Before security: All shops and catering outlets are open to all passengers, but any liquids and gels purchased must be packed into your luggage for check-in. Any other purchases must fit into your hand luggage.

Once through security: All shops and catering outlets are open to all passengers. If you are travelling to any destination except the USA then you can take all items purchased in the departures lounge into the aircraft cabin.

If you are travelling to the USA: Extra restrictions are in place. Passengers will be subjected to secondary security searches at the gate. No toiletries or cosmetics purchased in the departure lounge will be allowed into the aircraft cabin and any drinks or liquid items must be consumed before boarding. Food, however, is allowed. Passengers boarding flights to the USA and items they are carrying, including those acquired after the central screening point, will be subjected to secondary search at the gate and any liquids discovered will be removed.

If you are in any doubt about what you can and cannot take on board please ask a member of staff.

No, hand luggage is not banned as I know. I did not bring any luggage to Turkey. I am now in Turkey staying there for three months. I was thinking to stay 1 month ut later on I wanted to stay. Yo must see Istanbul. Any information pls contact me on han.barca

The restriction now is that you can only take one carry on bag
which must be no bigger than a lap top bag. This can contain mobile phones, i pods, books etc.

You are not allowed to take any liquids or gels or any make up including lipsticks in your hand luggage. However once you are through to airside you can buy these at duty free and take on board to evrywhere except the US.

Hand luggage has never been banned. There are smaller size restrictions and you can't take and liquids, aerosols or gels through security.
Check with your carrier about any specific restrictions they may be applying as airlines seem to be interpreting the rules differently

Following the Government’s reduction in security levels from critical to severe, they have now allowed passengers to carry one hand-carry luggage with specific dimensions. You are not allowed to carry any liquids, gels nor cosmetics and if you plan to bring them, you have to pack them with your check-in luggage.
It has also now been allowed to carry laptops, mobile phones and cameras on board, but the bulky ones like laptops must be taken out of its case and x-rayed at security.
Since you are not bound for the US, you can also take with you anything that you bought in dutyfree shops after the security check.

What I can advise you is that minimise anything you want to carry as it will expedite your way through security and check-in as much as you can.

From my experiences it is the cesspit of the earth. Hopefully the terrorist bombings will lead to a lot less tourists visiting the country and that in turn will ruin there already decrepid economy.
