Me? An atheist.

Implicit atheist actually - basically I acknowledge that while there does not appear to be a God, as in there is no evidence for God, I can't rule her out.

I believe based on evidence, personally, but I am perfectly happy for others to believe in things that give them some measure of comfort without significantly diminishing their ability to perceive reality.

The best thing you can do is work through what evolution is yourself. I'll help you get started if you want, you can message me by clicking profile and then 'contact'. :)

But yes, the same thing that makes 2 + 2 = 4 is exactly the same thing that says "while there may be a God, we don't need one"

Finally, it is good that you are nice to people. I will say that from the morals inherit in evolution you are doing well. (Basically evolution says that it is moral to create a society in which very few are left out - everyone is to get as high a chance to survive as possible. And that includes making people happy, as unhappy people wage war. Finally, all that it really means is 'treat others as you would have them treat you' - which makes lots of sense)

But yes, I have been arguing this kind of thing for a while now, so feel free to ask any questions!

On edit: The person saying that atheists are concerned overly with deities does not know any of the atheists I do.

I don't know what you necessarily mean by "finding it hard to believe all that stuff about how the world started." Are you having trouble understanding certain scientific theories? If that's the case then just do what I do and ask questions of those who have a better grasp on those theories (YA has a science section and there are numerous forums on the net dedicated to science...www.talkorigins.org is a good place to ask questions about origin related theories). Once you have a decent grasp of the theory...then it is easy to decide which ones seem most likely to you. I've found that theories dealing with events before the BB are almost impossible to understand without a degree and/or a lot of study...I don't have the time to pursue them all to an extent necessary to form a conclusion or to determine if it is possible to decide one is better than the others. But, there are many things we don't know, so not knowing all the scientific answers to origins doesn't bother me....but it is interesting to research when I have the time.

Maybe your question is more along the lines of if there is no god then how did anything start to exist? It's possible that the universe has always existed in some form or another and have even been theories that it could be self creating (haven't seen that one pursued much further than one abstract I found...just throwing it out there as a possibility)....In short, I don't know and don't think anyone really does know. I would imagine you are in that loop of "If god created the universe then what created god/how did god get here and if god doesn't need a creator then why assume the universe needs one but if the universe wasn't created then how did it get here?."

How did I deal with answering that little loop question? Well, when I first started really thinking about it I felt like my head was going to explode...it's confusing and probably very normal to get very frustrated over. Developing an answer first started to make sense when I looked at the question while taking out unnecessary steps and this turned the question from a loop into something more simple "why is the universe here?" I didn't know about Occam's razor at the time....but it is what I was essentially using to narrow down the question. I personally don't find Oscam's razor a satisfactory reason for not believing in a god...after all, sometimes the real answers aren't the most simple ones.

So, I looked at in a different way "How successful have religious beliefs been in answering real life questions?" Religion hasn't had a very good track record for providing truthful answers. Lightning, thunder, rain, earthquakes etc were once all explained as being direct acts of gods....we know better now, they are just natural processes which can be explained without appealing to religious beliefs. If religion was not able to answer small questions like "why does rain happen" why should we expect it to answer the big questions like "why are we here?" Basically, when trying to find an answer to origins I find "god" to be an unsatisfactory answer and don't mind saying "I don't know."

I am a proud atheist.

Your concern about how the world "started" is unfounded. The world didn't "start." Matter and/or energy have always existed. It has to be for there can be no such thing as nothing. Nothing means No-thing and no theory can account for a state of nothingness.

God certainly don't get you off the hook. God just adds one to the problem of infinite regression. If you wonder how the world could have started then you should equally wonder how god could have started and then what started the god that started that god ...ad infintum.

The explanation is simple. Matter and/or energy has always existed (it has to be) and things change over time (we see this all around).

Feel free to message me with any questions you'd like. I guarantee i won't dodge any of them.

I believe that there is a God and he has a son Jesus. I believe that the universe had to start somewhere. I believe he answers my prayers and watches over me. When I pray I feel peace and comfort. I believe that we don't have all of the answers to our questions, which it says in the bible that we will not have all the answers we just have to belive and trust in him, and that is why some people don't believe in God.I I think that there may be passages missing from the bible, but I'm not sure of course, but it could explain evolution, and dino's. I think that the bible is true and real. Just read Revelations. The bible has been around for many many years and the things that are written in the book of Revelations are coming true. There are actual historical facts that "Jesus" was a real man. Where he was the son of God is the part that people have to believe in, in faith, not fact. I think that there is a God because in all of the evil and bad things that occur on this earth there is still sooo much good. Miracles occur everyday "whether you believe they are a Devinne intervention of God or not, they occur just the same". I believe that if we are good and honest people and try our best to help others and do what is right, and believe in God, then we will live in a much better place than we do now.
I also believe that organized religion has turned people away from God. They worried about money, and who's paying dues. They preach about doing "God's will" yet as soon as they leave the church they are not doing what the preached about! It's not God's fault that these people are not doing his will. I still believe in God and Christianity. You must remember that humans are not perfect and do sin, so when humans are incharge of running a church it's not going to be perfect! But God's word will be!!! You just have to listen to your heart and follow it!!!

That's just my thoughts. Good question by the way!!

You can find out about my path at www.srf-yogananda.org

It is so confusing because there are many faiths all of them claiming truth and some claiming that they are the only truth. I have experienced the love of God and of my master (Guru, Avatar, self-realized being) but no-one can experience this FOR someone else.

At this point in your Quest you might want to read books such as Conversations with God by Walsch and Only Love is Real by Brian Weiss, perhaps Myss's Course in Miracles, or Transform Your Life by Geshe Kelsang (a leading Buddhist) and of course my Guru's Autobiography of a Yogi, and get a sense of which path, if any, is speaking to you personally.

I don't consider myself to be atheist or agnostic, i actually don't like to label myself to anything that could be considered a religion. I believe in what i can see and touch. There is an earth here, where it came from, i could really care less. This society we live in has been formed over centuries and this is what it has evolved to, so i have found that it is best to try and make a good life for myself, my family and friends. There is no higher power that guides me or scares me, i live for myself and my family, thats it, thats all im responsible to. I tell you this much though, if there is a god, he or she or it needs to come down and say "hey, im god and this is how i can prove it." Other than that, we are alone on this planet, its up to us how we live it.

You sound like you are a deist.

A copy/paste of deist beliefs:

You believe in God but are not accepting of the authoritarian creeds of any particular religion.

You believe that God's word is the universe (nature), not human-written holy books.

You like to reason or speculate what God might be like rather than be taught about it.

You think that religious ideas should reconcile with and not contradict science.

You believe God can be best found outside rather than inside a church building.

You enjoy the freedom of seeking spirituality on your own.

You are morally guided by ethics and conscience rather than by scriptures.

You are an individual thinker whose religious beliefs are not formed from tradition or authority.

You like to call yourself rational or spiritual before you call yourself religious.

You believe that religion and government (church and state) should be separate.

Famous deists include Thomas Paine, Benjamin Franklin and Albert Einstein. (Though many misinformed Christians seem to think Einstein and Franklin were christian, they were in fact deists!)

You may want to consider Deism. That is, unless I'm mistaken, the idea that God created the universe and has not intervened since. That would take care of the problem of origins, but still allow an atheistic lifestyle (without worship).

And as for dealing with the questions, I simply did. Evolution may sound a bit far-fetched, I'll admit, but when you consider that everything adapts, and compare it to the alternative (creationism), it seems more plausible.

i invite u to Islam. Research on ur own abt Islam, 'coz if i say abt It, u r going to feel, i m biased as i m a Muslim. Read The Holy Quran, Read Books of Hadiths (Prophet's Sayings), Research by Authentic Reliable Books & Sites (Don't count on sites that defame Islam, 'coz they spread mis-information and misconceptions abt Islam, and they cant even back up there claims with sufficient proofs, thus they are basically rambling Falsehood abt Islam). Do all this research on ur own and dont believe in anyone's hearsay (Not even mine). May GOD (ALLAH) guide u on The Path of Seeking The Truth. But, i will tell u this, that Islam is abt Peace, Love, Harmony & Humanity, & i think if any Religion has these qualities, its worth researching abt. Peace to All.

early in the sunny morning, you can see a lot of nepalese people (Nepal) spreading water drops to the sun !!

many people dont know why this is doing and youngers are considering as arthodox. If u ask to those people, who are doing same, use to say that they are worshiping the sun, coz, they follow the sun as god !!

but the hidden reason is:
when u throw the water drops to the early arised sun, the sun rays are dispersed into 7 different colors, among them the green color is very fruitful to the prayer' eyes.

Remarks:
this is the practical method that was used to get green rays for eyes by ancestors, but recently, people are considering as orthodox or following as tradition...
