I am trying to learn what additives are put into homemade illegal alcohol to strengthen its alcohol content and thereby let people get drunker on less. I am talking about added chemicals from various sources. No, I won't drink it!

To make stronger 'hooch,' you run it through the still a second and third time.

If you dont want to drink it then use SALT and dont waste your time.

It is not what you put in it. It is how you operate your still. No additive will increase the amount of alcohol in your shine but more alcohol.

When operating the still.
The first vapor that comes off.."the tops" are the most volatile and contains the most alcohol. If you want it strong just use the "Tops". Most good shine makers dilute the tops with water to around 80 to 100 proof before consumption.

Now if you want to make the mash produce more alcohol when fermenting before you distill it. Then you may need more sugar. In sour mash whisky you do not put sugar. Sugar converts to alcohol quickly. In sour mash the carbohydrates in the corn must break down into sugars before the yeast can convert them to alcohol. Feed the little yeast bugs they do all the work.

Unless the added chemicals are pure grain alcohols, then you can't "ADD" something to make it stronger. It's all from the recipe and the distilling. There are probably hundreds of sites and books that can explain to you how it works, I'd recommend taking some time and visiting those for a more indepth look at how it works.

You don't.
To "strengthen" the alcohol content, you have to redistill it. Added chemicals won't do it. Adding salt to it may raise the alcohol content a little by absorbing some water...SOME, not all unless you add a ridiculous amount. But think about it...who's going to drink salty hooch? You won't drink it, and nobody else will either.

the idea isn't to add chemicals to boost the alcohol level, but to brew it patiently so that it's more concentrated and therefore more potent.
