The christian bible contains 2 parts, Old Testament (things that happened before Jesus was born) and the New Testament (things about Jesus' life and the future).
Christians are followers of Jesus. Sadly there are 3000 denominations of Christianity. I am a Roman Catholic. The bible I read and believe was written by men that met God (Moses, Noah, David), met angels (Jacob) and met Jesus (Mark, Luke, John). These men had there words written down. The first bible was written in Aramaic and Hebrew. Later more books were written it took men many years because they made sure that they did not make any errors. As more languages came to be, bibles were written in their languages and the people that wrote these took a long time and reread it many times comparing it to the original in Hebrew and Aramaic to make sure the words were the same. As a Catholic I have read many history books and books from the Church and am learning Hebrew myself. I have found that the bible I read is of the same words that the ancient Hebrew ones have. Many Christian religions, such as Protestant, Luthern, Pentecostal, don't have the same words and even same books in their bible. Just a few hundred years ago a man like Luther or Calvin decided he personally didn't agree with the Holy Bible and rewrote it. I have bibles from other Christian faiths and compare them all. Words have been changed, verses and chapters have been removed, some new things have been added and such. In my research I have found the Catholic bible to be accurate with the first written bible. Other Christian bibles aren't.
The Jews have the Old Testament only. They don't believe Jesus is our Messiah so they don't believe anything in the New Testament. But the Catholic bible and the Jews (Hebrew)bible are the same in the start.

Because the original Gospels were written in Greek and Hebrew. Once it was determined which Gospels were authentic and consistent, and which were gnostic heresies, they were assembled into the first Bible. It wasn't until the Bible was translated into Latin that it was really "rewrote" as you put it. I understand your point though. If I want to be SURE that Jesus said "I and my father are one" or "before Abraham was, I AM" or that "go forth and baptise in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit", I will learn Hebrew. However, faith is good enough for me at this point.
By comparison, the early Qur'an underwent a similar process, and "heretical" recitations were excluded and banned from the "official" Qur'an. Even today, the Shia and Sunni disagree about interpreting the Qur'an. Which group is sure they are right? BOTH of them. Also, take a look at all the different English translations of the Qur'an. None of them match word for word. NONE of them.

I believe the 1611 KJV Bible. It is the True inspired word of God. It is true from the beginning to the end. There are no lost books there. By Faith i believe the Bible, and God. The Bible needs to be Reread. Not Rewritten.

i have to agree with james m. religion and faith are far too big to discuss on some yahoo answers forum. but i'll just say as a "combat" veteran. (big emphasis on Combat) veteran of every muslim/christian war since 1999, I'll say this, christians and muslims are the exact same in level of faith and stupidity. It's very easy to see how ignorant people justify the violence that they do on religion.

what do mean re wrote?
You can go to the original text, and write your own bible, like the NIV or the NKJV.
They are not a re write, they just use different interpation of the original text!

The same thing that makes all of the religious types feel they are following the "true" path, and it is what makes the religious types untouchable: Faith. How can you argue with faith? You can't, but that doesn't make them right though, just difficult to reason with when it comes to religion.

we have faith that it's the word of God. we try not to analyze it too much. we simply believe that it is a manual for how we should live our lives.
