Its all the sins, of all the people that have ever lived, we are paying for their sins. The devil is tricking you, its the devils work. Also, the bible huggers will probably answer with some quoted passages from the bible, but the rest of us know better. There is no god, wow, i feel ten pounds lighter.

Satan is the god of this world, first of all. (1 John 5:19) Has been since he was cast out by jesus. Also know that god does not cause it. He's not responsible for the wars, the crimes, oppresion, or natural disasters that cause people to suffer. Why you ask? If he is almighty, and has the power to stop it, why does he hold back? He must have a good reason agree?
It boils down to the issue of universal sovereignty. Does god have a right to rule? This issue was raised by satan in the garden of eden. Satan implied that mankind would be better off without god's rulership. this was the attack on gods sovereignty, his right to rule. Adam and eve rebelled, in effect saying "we don't need god as our ruler. we can decide for ourselves what is right and wrong." How would god settle this issue? How could he teach all the intelligent creatures that the rebels were wrong and that his way was truly the best?
consider an illustration: imagine that a teacher is telling his students how to solve a difficult problem. A clever but rebellious student claims that the teacher's way of solving the problem is wrong. Implying that the teacher is not capable, the rebel insists that he knows a much better way. Some students think that he is right, and they also become rebellious. What should the teacher do? If he throws the rebels out of the class, what will be the effect on the other students? Will they not believe that their fellow student and those who joined him are right? All the other students in the class might lose respect for the teacher, thinking that he is afraid of being proved wrong. But suppose that the teacher allows the rebel to show the class how HE would solve the problem.
god has dome something similar to that teacher. Remember that the rebels in Eden were not the only ones involved. Countless millions of angels were watching. How god handled the rebellion would greatly affect all those angels and eventually all intelligent creation. So, what has god done? He has allowed satan to show how he would rule mankind. God has allowed humans to govern themselves under satan's guidance. When the rebels fail, all honest students will see that the teacher is the only one qualified to teach the class. They will understand why the teacher thereafter removes any rebels from the class. Similarly, god knows that all honesthearted ones and angels will benefit from seeing that satan and his fellow demons have failed and that humans cannot govern themselves. (Jeremiah 10:23)

When God made the world he made it good and perfect. Then he made Adam and Eve, and gave them free choice. God told them not to eat the forbidden fruit, but they ate it anyway. So the World was not perfect anymore. Thus causing sin, sickness, wars etc. etc. He may very well be "thinning out the heard" Just like he didn't when it rained for 30 days and 30 nights. But know one knows for sure. He maybe testing his children to see who still believes in him after the bad thing occur. Sure it's easy to trust in him and have faith when things are going good. But when the times get though who still believes in God!!
I heard a story once that I will share with you. A girl is sitting in the kitchen with her mother, sad and upset, because her friend had just been killed in a car accident. The girl asked her mother "Why did God let this happen?" The mother was going to bake a cake and asked her daughter if she wanted any. The daughter said yes. Her mother said "hear eat some flour" "no that gross" said the girl. "Then eat some raw eggs" said the mother " No way mom". "Well how about some backing soda?" The girl said "mom that is nasty". Finlay the mother said "well all of these things by themselves may seem bad, or nasty, but when you put them all together it makes something good."!!!

You've asked a very old question, one that even believers ask. As a believer of God, I think all of these happen to open our eyes to the fact that these things you've stated (war, sickness, tsunamis,...) are things that are well and truelly out of our grasp.
There will always be war/strife/conflict when people do not trust each other, or can not be trusted at all. Illness will always be with us, even as advances in science (which incidentally is just a tool of man, but not the tool we have) take place daily. "Acts of Nature" like tsunamis will always confound us because we can't stop this things from happening.
So what is God doing?
God is waiting for all of us to ask Him to help us. It is that simple, but is a difficult road on its own.

Our earth is livable in large part because it is dynamic and changing constantly. This is to address the sickness, tsunamis, volcanoes, earthquakes, avalanches and such.
The moon has none of these things but it is a dead planet. Nothing lives on it.
I don't know if that will adequately answer your question, but it is a fact. This is a dynamic planet and it supports life because it is dynamic.
I believe in God, but I also understand the nature of man. That is why we have crime, war, injustice and many other things. God intended us to be perfect, according to the story of Adam and Eve, but man fell into sin and became imperfect.
You may or may not believe or accept this story or any part of the scriptures, however the imperfection of man is central to Christian beliefs and the strife we encounter is part of God's plan. God loves us, but we are His children and he loves, blesses, and--on occasion--punishes us.

He promised he would do this to Give Christians warning when he was about to return. Read Revelations. Learn about end time prophecys and the rapture. As for why the world is wicked ..thats because Satan Rules Earth..He was kicked out of heaven with his army of demons and have been here since day one trying to decieve man kind with dustractions and world mysterys and phonomnons. God left man with "Free Will" and who ever is a beleiver in Christ when God returns will be rewarded with heaven. He used to show his mirricals but read in exodus what happened...even after all God did , man still turned to Sin because Satan rules this earth.

God is calling the world to attention that he is about to pull the plug .There are so many things happening that we can't even list them all, but the bottom line is that the world in general is rejecting God and he is tired of it. This place belongs to him and he has his rules. We owe him everything and he loves us and will not tolerate all this craziness forever. What you are seeing is only the beginning of problems...
Rev 6:4 And there went out another horse that was red: and power was given to him that sat thereon to take peace from the earth, and that they should kill one another: and there was given unto him a great sword.

From our limited perspective we cannot see that there is good in every "bad" event that happens. It allows for rebirth and regeneration. In the grand scheme of things there is not a thing as good and bad....there is only a greater good. I know this is hard to understand but it has to do with the limitations of the human mind and the dualistic mindset we have inherited. If you really want to understand the concept that begins to point to the explanation of your question look up "non-dualism". Good luck..Its a very tough concept to master but if you do you will have a much clearer perspective and you will begin to awaken.

I believe that these things happen because they happen, and that there is no God. I guess it's just as well that your question was directed to all believers, or I might have said...
The Lord works in mysterious ways? Isn't that the stock reply?
or the one about God wanting to take all the good people up to heaven to live with him? That one's a favorite for explaining death to kids
or "God Loves You! That's what God is doing!"
The way I see it, this is OUR world. We live on it, we live with it, we live life. I don't see any reason to look into natural disasters and such any more deeply than that, I don't see them as spiritual. Moving, yes. Spiritual, no.
