Usually religion has been brought up to each individual by their descendants. It goes through the generations of the family. And for me, there's no religion that is dominant than the other. What makes sense in here is the spirituality that's been experiencing by a devotee. Well, if a person is not convinced with his own religion, then he must have lack of faith which leads to conversion of what he wanted.

Experience is better than logic. Logic can be confusing and experience is surprisingly more rational than many of us tend to believe.
Anyway if a religion teaches love and respect for all beings then you should not be on the wrong track. Be patient to analyse and feel your own truth, then decide what is best for yourself.
As for your 2nd question I think it is not true. I have seen many who were brought up in one religion and chose to convert to another for all kinds of reasons.

You can receive the Holy spirit from God and that is his proof to you, all other religions are a bunch of man made rules and regulations, except Christianity, it is a relationship with a living spirit from God who comes and lives in you and gives you a new heart, and leads and guides you and blesses you, it is the HOLY SPIRIT. No other religion has it because the father has set the rules to get it and it is by believing that he raised Jesus from the dead, and if you believe that you can receive this spirit , that is what we call being born again! Or born from above! All the rest take Jesus out and give you rules and regs and traditions of man, and they take away the spirit! And give you the law, the spirit is life and freedom. That's how we know, this can be seen in John!

the religions are all differentiated by their beliefs, but i wouldn't go as far as saying that there is one authority over another. Basically i think people are convinced of their own religion out of inherited preference, but some people chose other religions aside from what they grew up into because they find justification another religion offers their lifestyle.

most people carry on with the form of religion they grew up with or that is common to their ethnicity. religions don't have authority over other religions, they all feel they are 'right' of course, but that doesn't actually mean any of them are.

In the rational realm, there's not much differentiating. I'd say people simply find what matches their beliefs best and run with it (in a perfect world, anyway).

It's all based on personal opinion. If you feel that God delivering his message to Mohammed is more rational that him delivering his only begotten son, then so be it. It's all based on what each seperate person finds to be most plausible.
