behavior that at least appears to be unethical; maybe these people are nanobot robots (supposedly still at the theoretical stage)? It makes sense that if some group of people were first smart enough to become very wealthy, that they would then attempt to hide who they were. For example, watches that are worth very little but have large pricetags . .could be a way of making it seem like these people are passing money back and forth between them . . .

I have a hard time believing that this is actually going on. Holographic illusion, maybe?

Oh, these people are real. I'm related to some of them, and they make me uncomfortable. These spending tendencies, in my experience, are the trait of people who aren't old money, but didn't necessarily make their own money. If you've always had enough, but your family isn't high class, you wind up with skewed values. It's not the amount of money that gets spent that bothers me, it's that it tends to get spent on stuff that is utterly unneccessary.

Of course, even so, they're fulfilling a very important role. If money is not spent, the economy crumbles. If everyone hoards, you're looking at a recession. So while I can't personally engage in this kind of frivolity, I'm glad someone does.

I agree with the writer, it sounds like fun, but I can have just as much fun for a lot less money. It might not be as luxurious, but it doesn't have to be uncomfortable. A bed is a bed and the beaches and nature is there for everyone. Stop worrying about how "wasteful" it seems, and start wondering why you don't enjoy what you're doing with your life, and how you can make some changes in your philosophy and direction to help you find your goals and work to achieve them.
