Do you know for certain that he did make a will? You could try checking with lawyers in Cambridge. Is his wife still living? If she is then even without a will she will have first claim on his estate. Did he serve in the armed services during WW2 If so and you can find his army records servicemen made a simple will in their army pay book. Have you checked with his Bank?

you've obviously checked all through the house and have been unable to track it down, next step is to contact all the solicitors in the local area. Usually when a Solicitor draws up a Will, they retain the original and the client has a copy.

First off let me start by saying Sawyer is an idiot! Now, to address your question, someone had to write up the will. Check with his attorney. We just went through this w/my husbands gma. My husband is an only child and so is his mother. Gma is getting up there in years and not feeling so good. We went home this summer (like always) and she asked us to find gpa's will. We went to their lawyer and found a will that was in no way the same as the one gma had. It was shocking to them, and my husband had to be the one to get things straight. I wish you the best of luck. And looking for the will does in no way make you greedy (idiot sawyer). My prayers are with you and your family.

I can gurantee it will be in the possesion of a sneaky and caniving family member who is feeling unhappy with the distribution of the estate. Contact the lawyer or soliciter who drafted the will. THey will 100% have one on file, then you can determine who is hiding the real will and never speak to them again while enjoying your newly aquired items and assets

Yes. If there is a will made through a solicitor it will be registered.
Not sure where but ask Citizens Advice.

Check with his lawyer and let him check with the Public Notary's office where wills are ratified in order to become legal.

ask around people from his past work. or any lawyers he'd ever had contact with. any safety deposit box he might have kept? or close friends he considered as confidants?
do everything u could and exhaust all possible (and feasible and LEGAL) remedies otherwise, you'd be having WAY BIGGER TROUBLE dealing with intestate proceedings. trust me, you might even start meeting people you dont even know, who just popped out from nowhere, claiming to be his survivors/dependents etc.
good luck and my condolences.
