I suffer from bio-polar disorder. When you are happy and then for no reason you just suddenly become very up-set, then just minutes later you are happy again, your highs will be through the roof and your lows will be the worst. It is un-healthy to be this way, scientist think it is caused by an unbalance of chemicals in the brain. I went to the doctor years ago and have been on Prozac since that time, you might also try Zoloft as well because it does work, I'm not as bad as i once was, i still have my moments but seeing a psychologist and the medicine helps me a lot, I'm more even tempered now.

Bipolar disorder, also known as manic-depressive illness, is a brain disorder that causes unusual shifts in a person's mood, energy, and ability to function. Different from the normal ups and downs that everyone goes through, the symptoms of bipolar disorder are severe. They can result in damaged relationships, poor job or school performance, and even suicide. But there is good news: bipolar disorder can be treated, and people with this illness can lead full and productive lives.

Bi-polar disorder is another name for manic depression. It is basically extreme mood swings. One minute one is happy, then sad, then angry. And it is hard to control these moods. I am border line bi-polar and would get very sad and cry all the time, then happy then extremely depressed then I would be blowing up at my family for no reason at all. My doctor prescribed me a low dose of prozac which helps even out the mood swings. It is awful to deal with and I don't wish it on anyone, take care and good luck.

effects of it are quite similar to any other mental disorder..
Bipolar disorder relates to a mental inequilibrium, where the person falls into bouts of depression and then into bouts of utter excitement and happiness.
For no immediate triggering reason or cause the person becomes extrememly happy, and or extremely sad.

Well part of the time the person is manic and the rest of the time the person is depressed. It is caused by a chemical imbalance in the brain and can be managed by medication. Yes, I know people who have this and if they stay on their medication, they can lead a relatively normal life, But I know of people that wouldn't stay on their medicine and ended up doing crazy things that hurt them and their families.

I have bipolar. The mania placed me in bankruptcy and in strange places. The depression placed me in the psy. hospital. It can be controlled with therapy/meds though. It is very similar to a roller coaster with extreme sadness and euphoria.

This is a big topic. I suggest WebMd. You can get answers and there are support groups that can help.
