How can we improve on traffic congestion without adding or expanding roads?

I have always thought that we need a whole new, personal transortation sytem other than cars to fully fix that problem.

I think that we are lucky to have the already existing infrastructure of roads to try out some new technologies.

I believe, in a perfect world, there should be a little pod in your garage connected to a small rail that goes out your driveway and connects to the road.

The pod has an auto pilot and would be monitored by computers (like air traffic control). Each pod would be aware of where the others were so accidents would be minimal to nothing. You could sit back and relax and let your pod take you anywhere.

The best thing is we wouldnt need to spend triilions to do it.The roads are already there. It would cost as much as the BIG DIG, but it would be all over the country, under municipal control.

I know im dreaming but at the rate were going we need some dreamers. Or it will be 2 billion cars on the road.

Keep the big trucks in the slow lane. Give tickets to drivers that are going too slow. If an accident happens there should be a crew to get it cleared up in record time. Sometimes accidents take hours to clear up. I think a lane should be built overhead for the big trucks. It sure would clear up congestion and I think the trucking industry could help pay for it.

Get people to car pool. Join a lift club. If 5 people join a lift club, they would each save on traveling costs and there would be 5 less cars to deal with in rush hour traffic. Of and keep trucks off the highways and freeways during rush hour.
