Get a second opinion. I was misdiagnosed bi-polar 2.5 years ago. The mother of a friend of mine was misdiagnosed bi-polar a little over year ago. Both of us went on a rollar-coaster ride via medication that was way more diffcult than our original symptoms. After a month on a med he should be stabalizing/normalizing. Take him in to have his meds checked/changed or get him another opinion. Oh, and I can't say enough about talk-therapy. Studies show that talk-therapy is key to a good quality of life with bi-polar disorder. Studies also show that people with depression are less likely to relapse if their treatment includes talk-therapy. Be sure to interview the therapist and find a good match.

I was diagnosed, Bi-Polar.
Only for me it was about 4 years ago, I am 34.
I never took any meds for it.
That is except, "self medicating," from the age of thirteen on, my ,"choice/ favorite choice ",of self medication was..."cover your ears darlin' ", "pot".
My sister told me from age 15 on that I was ,"Manic/ Depressive", or Bi- Polar.
What the H.ell is STABLIZED?
I have heard of people on meds...too many maybe ... Going f-ing crazy and burning their house to the ground.
I have heard of people on medication STOPPING and going out and hurting or killing people!!!
What the he ll?
There is no stabilized.
I just live with it.
I WILL NOT TAKE MEDS for it.
Look at people in HISTORY...
MARK TWAIN, HITLER,
There are good and Bad examples of Bi-Polar.
Brad Pitt, Jim Carrey...
These people never took meds...
Robin Williams?
ALBERT EINSTEIN...
Take your pick.
Ofcourse we hope he does not turn out like HITLER...
Then again, that is just my opinion.
There are a few Nutcases who LOVE HITLER...
See I am rambling now...
GOODNIGHT...
Good days and Bad days.
I swear sometimes I have felt MANIC for MONTHS at a time...
Only , crashing into the DEPTHS for short periods and being UP again...

I really can not tell you much, but then again I could probably tell you a lot.
Send me an e-mail.
it is like 1 am, so I got to sleep I guess for awhile...I be up in like 5 hours though...
Bi- Polar can be WONDERFUL, as long as you are MANIC...
But for me, currently...I feel like iam on an ELEVATOR ALL THE TIME.
I would be glad to tell you more, but I should at least try to sleep for awhile.

Sorry he is so young and already been diagnosed with this...I would see about getting a different med...I personally would pray on this one but I would try different meds until I got one that would help him function normally and do normal things with him so he realizes that he will fit in that it is a chemical imbalance...

He'll have good days and bad days. Enjoy the good and forgive him for the bad. It's a tough situation for everyone involved.
I wish you the best!
