I believe the people who are saying that are misguided. I've actually had this same conversation with people. What it comes down to is categories. Christianity is the umbrella under which resides Catholics and Protestants. A lot of people confuse non-Protestant with non-Christian. Catholics are just as much a part of Christianity as Southern Baptists, or Church of England members.

who sez you're not a christian? remember this, christianity means followers of christ. It was divided into many parts, due to the apostles... each established christianity. St. Peter and St. Paul were the forebearers of Catholicism... Methodist, Adventists, Lutherans, Baptists were all part of Catholicism during earlier times but broke off due to differences in the traditions of practices. now the earlier part were made of Roman Catholic (those who followed the apostles) and the Greek Orthodox (those followers of Christ who were left behind by the apostles when they decided to spread countrywide but continued on its practice...). With these in mind, anyone who believes in God and believes in Christ are all called Christians. ciao...

Some people don't realize that the term "Christian" can be applied to any person who believes that there is one God, that Jesus is the only Son of God, and that Jesus was crucified and rose from the dead, breaking the chains of death.
I will often refer to myself as a "Catholic Christian" just to get this point across. The denominations don't always agree on a lot, but we do agree on the basic premise listed above.

"Where the Bishop appears, there let the people be, just as where Jesus Christ is, there is the Catholic Church."
St. Ignatius of Antioch's letter to the Smyrneans, paragraph 8, of 106 A.D
"Christian is my name, and Catholic my surname. The one designates me, while the other makes me specific. Thus am I attested and set apart... When we are called Catholics it is by this appellation that our people are kept apart from any heretical name."
Saint Pacian of Barcelona, Letter to Sympronian, 375 A.D.

No. Catholics are Christians, but not all Christians are Catholics. Many Christians find some of the Catholic doctrine hard to swallow or pagan. That may be why some Christians do not think of Catholics as such.

There's probably no doubt your a Christian as you follow Jesus. But the teachings are wrong.
Look at the 2nd commandment, then look at all the shrines and statues.

Anyone who believes in Jesus Christ is a Christian.
I can say the world is flat, but that wouldn't have any effect on reality.

Believe it or not, some fundie protestant denominations do not think that catholics are really christian...that you have the wrong faith in the pope and mary and other idols.
I know you are both christians, and both have equally ludicrous beliefs.

Keep in mind some of the posters here are trolling and do not even consider themselves Christians. Watch out and do not let them push your emotional buttons.
