i heard she would have to be spayed & the male might not be able to produce again,vet did not tell me any of this,he just said she had a uterus inf.& give me antibiotics,this is devastating if true for both of them would be my foundation dogs, what antibiotics would be best?for both, my vet give me cephalexin 500 mg. someone told me that was not best kind, someone please help!

There are two kinds of pyometria (uterine infection), open or closed. If open, you will see pus coming out of the vulva, if closed you will not see anything. In vet school they teach us never to let the sun set on a pyometria meaning that these dogs should be spayed immediately to save their life. Dogs that recover without getting spayed will almost certainly get another infection after their next cycle if they don't get pregnant. Good luck,

Give the poor girl a break and fix her. Why would you risk your dogs health just so you can keep breeding her. If you don't trust your vet for the meds, take her some where else and get a second opinion. Sometimes vets only give you the best med they have on hand at the time. I had this problem when my dog had a urinary tract infection. I hope she feels better, and you should seriously consider fixing her.
