If you're going or such a dramatic colour change, I would definitely recommend you go to a salon. Book up a free consultation, where you can discuss what sort of effect you want, and what the stylist thinks will suit you. You can also discuss other things such as maintenance and your budget - getting control of your roots can be a nightmare. If you don't get on with the stylist you're not obliged to pay for anything or get a treatment, just nod, smile, say you'll think about it and try somewhere else.
Instead of going from a raven-haired chick to a blonde babe overnight, I would advise you to get some highlights. Celebs such as Micha Barton have highlighted their hair to give them a natural, sunkissed effect. You can find pics of Micha Barton's hairstyle here: http://www.thehairstyler.com/celebrity_hairstyle.asp?name=Mischa+Barton
If you like it after having the highlights then you could consider going blonder, but if not, be glad that you haven't really committed yourself.
When going blonde, you also have to consider which shade will suit your eyecolour, eyebrow colour and skin tone.
hope this helps! take care x

I just did this and I had Alburn hair. I don't claim this will work and I took a big risk but it work with me.
I went to a store in my area (WalMart) they have a bleaching kit called Totally blond also get after u do this to cut any yellow color a blond reg hair color after it dries from the bleaching kit...
That did it for me and my hair is blond again...It's called double processing but your best bet is to go to a salon and have them do it...
You may pay more but knowing someone who has been train to do these things are better than risking burning and damaging your hair.

I'd rather stay a brunette than cop out and become a boring blonde... Guys all are attracted to blondes... but honestly, brunettes are sexy and much more mysterious and interesting. Stay brunette and be true to your roots, literally!

It was a pain in the ***, and the darker your hair is, the longer it will take. I used flash lighning and a toner. I left the bleach in for like, two hours and then toned it to take out the yellow. If you ask the nice people who work at your local sally beauty supply (or other comprable store) they will happily reccomend the right stuff for you to use! Just leave the bleach in for a long time!!!

i use garnier dying products. it took about 7 dyes before it really worked, but the result was terrible and was not worth the money.
