if god was so powerful, why didnt he just kill all wicked people like how he killed the man with the "eat drink and be merry" tag, or how he killed the innocent firstborn sons of exodus, or have noah's family kill all other people since it was so legal during the old testament times as we can see all over the bible.

he stilll knew that they will not change their ways so why go through the preaching part? i think its also possible that god hardenned their heart (like the pharaoh) so they wont change ways and drown istead?

"When people understand that the Bible is meant to be a code of ethics rather than a word-for-word history book" now, if you believe that god literally impregnated mary, and the literal story of jesus' death and resurrection, wha are christians to decide which part of the bible is literal or not?

note: the gift of understanding is an illegal answer.

It isn't an issue unless you believe in the literal translation of the bible.

It could be a morality tale to explain why there is a rainbow and to also explain why you can find sea shells in the middle of continents.

The concept of science did not exist back then.

Great question. So many of the stories in the Bible have one purpose: to teach morality. When people understand that the Bible is meant to be a code of ethics rather than a word-for-word history book, then they don't have to burden themselves with the difficulties between science and scripture. As a person grows, they come to intrinsically understand how "sins" such as envy, murder, and theft are wrong. The Bible is a great tool for helping people understand what might not normally occur to them. A good person's conscience prevents them from intentionally causing harm to others. A child knows no better. The child must be taught, and the Bible has been a way to instill morals before a person even truly understands the meaning of the word moral. Like you said, some people have ears but don't listen. They have eyes but don't see. God's "chosen" seem to have the natural capacity to do both quite well.

not all theists are Christians. A theist in simple terms believes there's a god. i'm a Christian. whilst it contains biblical interpretation i've got faith you interpret the Bible such as you do any literature. easily there is poetry interior the Bible. Genesis a million is poetry. often poetry is interpreted with very a good number of license. I have not got any difficulty doing that with Genesis a million through fact it is the traditional way poetry is interpreted. i could agree nevertheless that it variety of feels to study very actually. i'm unable to determining no count if the flood became interior of reach, interior of reach or worldwide. I do discover it pleasing that each and each physique cultures have a flood tale and that the worldwide became strongly impacted with the help of the thawing of the ice age. Are those activities tied mutually? i don't understand. Parables are thoughts (set interior the real worldwide, yet not inevitably with genuine human beings) informed to make a ethical or non secular element. the main element in expertise the Bible is which you do not might desire to alter right into a Jew to alter right into a Christian. hence the guidelines that word to Judaism, like circumcision or not ingesting beef do not word to Christians. .

To my understanding of the flood event, Noah was a man of righteousness. It took him years to build the ark. Maybe he preached to the people the whole time, trying to get them to change their ways.
I'm sure God could have snapped his fingers and it would have been done, but God is a patient God and he does not want anyone to parish. He wants us all to be his children.

My mother feels that the whole story of Noah's Ark is not true , sort of a story created to explain what happened, but that one must be careful in how they interpreted the bible.

I can't think of the way she explained it, but hope you understand.

Because the bible is a book of tales. Stories were passed down through the years and someone wrote them down into a book and sold them as god's word. The best marketing ploy in history!

God had a plan, and that was part of it. The flood wasn't jst to wipe out the inhabitants of the earth. It also involved land formations, and changes in the atmosphere.

God is actually one of the laziest beings in the universe. Sure, he could have gotten up that morning and did as you suggest. But nooooo, he had to sleep in after drinking heavily the previous evening. Then it's "Noah! Noah! I have a job for you." Lazy God. With a wave of his hand, all could be well, but what He really wanted was the last two cold beers in the fridge. So let Noah do it.

I guess like every good serial killer and mass murderer, he was trying to perfect his method. JUST KIDDING people. Nobody knows why God does anything.

I believe he did...God couldn't find anyone that wasn't evil except Noah and his family, that is why they were spared.
