I would probably say about 19 or 20 in most cases. At 18 most teenagers want to be more independent and start working towards becoming more that way. But Roma wasnt built in a day so it takes a couple of years or so to get completely off of their feet.

You can be any age. But if you move out on your own., You have to pay your won bills. Even if you live with your parents and work you should give them some money to help with groceries , electric etc. Put 1/3 away ,give them 1/3, then spend 1/3 on your self. Good luck Pem

I think that as soon as you start getting an allowance, you should be taught financial responsibility. I don't mean that a 5 year old should be buying his own clothes, but he is plenty old enough to learn to start saving for things he really wants. As they get older, if they are getting an age appropriate allowance, then they should be managing thier money. If a 16 year old has a job, and wants a car, they should be making their car payment, and insurance. Some people may disagree, but if you want your children to be successful, they need to start to understand budgeting as soon as possible!

It depends on the family, but 17 is a bit too early, and 23 is a bit too late.

Generally, if a youngster is in college, and family is helping, then he/she should try to become independent as soon after graduating as possible.

But I know many young people who were able to finance their own college educations,...it is difficult, but not impossible.
