You need to have an ID ready when you are picking up your ticket so they can make sure you are not a terrorist or better than that...that you really are who you say you are. They have criteria that you must meet....such as age...etc. That you must BE..who you say you are. I know it is very difficult to board a plane without proper ID...maybe impossible. You just have to prove you are who you are. and not a possible fraud situation or fugitive.

Most US airports do not require an ID to "get on" the plane. It is required to get through security screening.

Not really,
They need your passport but If you have one, I say take your ID with just to be safe. Especially with all the airport rules nowdays

Easy.. have you ever heard of a black list... Some people are not allowed to travel because of many many reasons.
Imagine a criminal who just killed 5 people... there's a warrant out for him.... and he can just jump on a plane to another country without identifying himself....
do I have to explain more... I think you can fill in the rest...
